Thanks guys !

And I think I also finally figured out how to change a semi-transparent image (without killing the transparent background) after spending endless frustrating hours horsing around with my GIMP program.

Layers > transparency > threshold alpha

But even with that option, you still have to go in with the eraser tool and fine tune the edges.

Yay! Another GIMPpal!

I think this is what you are trying to do...
Just select the partially transparent area with the fuzzy select tool, grow or shrink if needed, then use a standard brush at 100 pct opacity with the color of choice over the selected area.

Ah okay... that would be a good way to select a specific area if you want to keep some areas semi-transparent and others not.

Why hadn't I thought of that earlier ??

*slaps self on forehead*

What I like about the threshold alpha is that it will select all of the semi-transparent areas and allows you to adjust how much transparency you want (or none at all) with a simple slider (full transparency to no transparency and everything in between)... this will work great for images where the fuzzy select tool just isn't cutting it (ie: images that have multiple colours together where you have to click multiple times to get the entire area properly selected).

I also have Adobe Photoshop but prefer the GIMP program by a landslide... it's far more user friendly for rookies like myself... albeit you have to download 6000 different brushes, script-fu's, pallettes, etc etc to get it up to snuff with all of the options in Photoshop, but I don't mind.

well, i have completed 2 so far that were so terrible that I didn't burden the world with the potential of blindness for having to look at them.

The thing I am trying to do is make the image of you make sense in the avatar. I may end up using a different body/set of clothes.

I have a template open at home right now trying to work it out. But while i have you here....do you want the wine glass left in or removed, as a preference?

I can be removed.

Imma let you do your thing, and that is making awesome avatars!

Do you have any questions that will help you in your customization?

no, and last night I think i got myself going down the right path, at least from an aesthetic point of view.

Glad you want the glass removed....i have a cool staff to put in its place.

Could I get somebody to resize my banner in my signature?

It's not quite fitting right anymore, not sure why.

this sounds like a job for Zarni, or any other animator.

its a world that I just don't seem to have a flair for. Static images are my thing.
