Oldest tool ever found in Turkey alters European history

An early human dropped a stone tool on a floodplain in what is now Turkey about 1.2 million years ago. Today, its discovery is helping scientists pinpoint when humans began their move from Asia to Europe.

The quartzite flake, described in Quaternary Science Reviews, is "the earliest securely-dated artifact from Turkey ever recorded," and its discovery pushes back the presumed date of human migration into Europe, researcher Danielle Schreve says, per EurekAlert.

Her eye just happened to be "drawn to a pinkish stone on the surface" while studying a sediment deposit in an ancient river bend near Gediz.

The data revealed a "secure chronology," showing humans were in the area between 1.24 million and 1.17 million years ago, experts say.

Another example that calls human history into question..

I am curious how long its going to take for modern scientists to accept the fact our history is not what it seems.

A human ancestor, homo erectus is what probably dropped the artefact, not Homo sapiens.

Some day I hope we find out why the hell we went around like arised apes for so damn long and then suddenly made significant progress in mere thousands of years, and even bigger progress in latest houndred years.

What happened?

The climate changed.

Where our ancestors lived went from forests to savanna.

Evolution did the rest.

ETA:

That's a highly simplistic answer btw.

Finding a book or doco on it is recommended

As already pointed out it was posted a few days ago, and there is a wealth of info and discussion in that thread. I could copy and paste my own stuff from there again but it seems pointless. You could join the existing thread as it still has some life in it
