A chimp is an animal, simply a biological meat sack born of evolution, an artificial intelligence would be a completely different entity altogether i'm afraid.

yeah, far far more advanced... actually, we can only imagine a thing only as intelligent as us right? it's pretty hard to even imagine something being far far more advanced, intelligent and everything, innit? so in order to understand the A.I. we have to at least try...
all in all, we - as humans - are scre*ed.

You need to release the problems faced regarding the creation of a true artificial intelligence. Humanity simply does not understand consciousness enough to even begin to address the notion.

We are one of the last generations to have children born as pure humans on Earth. Enjoy the lifetime.

Curiously, I can imagine a neanderthal mother grunting those very same thoughts to her children. Who knows, it really may be the next step on the ladder of evolution, with all that that entails.

Can you give an example of such AI?

& take into account that I don't want you to talk about sci-fi or Transformers...

Like a real life example?? Nooooooo because it hasn't been created yet. Hence references to SCIFI MOVIES! If it existed, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Thanks for playing,
DPJ

Are you saying that consciousness and intelligence are intertwined?

That's one of the Robocop movies, I believe. It is kind of scary.

we spend our lives doing something, learning medicine, law, pharmacy, history, geography.. we dedicate our lives to this stupid HOPE that there is a bright future ahead of us... and for what? for what?

we are doomed, there is no sense in going on living this way... study hard, have children and for what? if there is nothing to be after that... it's horrifying, innit?

I would say there is a direct link regarding consciousness and true sentience. As to intellect i would imagine its a contributing factor.

I hope you are young so you can see The Singularity happen, then you will know what we have meant.

Sounds like a Dalek from Dr. Who. All they want to do is exterminate. Then, there are the Cybermen. They want to assimilate mankind- like the Borg.

I think I have a fair idea of what I'm talking about, maybe I didn't explain myself well enough.

You have no idea what you are talking about.

You think something fictional is going to take over the World, I think you need to look in the mirror when you say that.

AI can only learn from its surroundings & environment...

What surroundings & environment do you know of that consists of the idea to destroy Mankind?

Not to mention it would have to have unlimited memory capacity to truly be considered AI...

Think: that nifty little phone in your pocket? Yeah, that used to be sci-fi. Where do you think futurists get their ideas from?

That you say this, to equate it to AI, & as if to prove some kind of point, tells me you enjoy a bit of fantasy.
Time Travel is also Sci-Fi, it's also impossible.

Maybe you can answer my original question...

Why would someone who is smart enough to create this sort of AI, be stupid enough to create this sort of AI?

Don't answer that actually, no such person exists...
Much like this threat to Humanity.

Words have power and games are the best way to learn.

I hope so to, i also hope any artificial intelligence we create is benevolent regarding its creators but that's just wishful thinking on our part considering what we have done to the planet.

Just be careful what you wish for and keep in mind that once we create something that supersedes ourselves regarding intellect we are essentially obsolete.

What do you think happened to our creators?

geez, that's so narrow-minded again...

of course they (Apple, IBM, Google, EU, USA, Russia,China whatever) will race and tease each other to create such A.I. ... it's always been like that, I don't see why would they change that for this invention.

Well, essentially I don't want it to happen, why would I?

What happened to our creators? That's really an interesting question, been thinking about it after watching Prometheus and I don't really know, maybe we are their laboratory and they are watching us? Or maybe they have left because we are "a lost case" .... I don't know.

As sentience, which I did not mention, and conciousness are concepts which I think can be defined physically, and intelligence can not, after all a sentient being is simply that which can feel something, I don't get the true relationship.
However, I do understand that what you are saying is that it matters not what humans think, they are so far out of the game that it's laughable, Would that be true?

AI can only learn from its surroundings & environment...

Uh, do you realize what happens to a human being born in the wild? We are entirely dependent on environmental stimuli for our learning. Think those thoughts of yours are your own, and in no way tied into your surroundings and environment. Really guy?

What surroundings & environment do you know of that consists of the idea to destroy Mankind?

Evolution, baby. You don't seem to get it. Sorry!

Not to mention it would have to have unlimited memory capacity to truly be considered AI...

This has no logical basis whatsover. Do we need unlimited memory capacities to have intelligence? Why would an artificial source of intelligence require unlimited memory? That makes no sense.

That you say this, to equate it to AI, & as if to prove some kind of point, tells me you enjoy a bit of fantasy.

You seem to be under the impression that because something is currently not possible with our given tech, it will remain so indefinitely. That's a bizarre assumption, and history shows this stance to be quite foolish.

Tiny minds.

Maybe you can answer my original question...

I can think of many brilliant inventions which lead to unfathomable consequences. To answer your question:

Mad scientist. Someone who's desire to invent supersedes their willingness to ponder all the possible outcomes of said invention. Oh, there have been many mad scientists.

I mentioned sentience because it's a requirement regarding conciousness. Lets just say I think us clever monkeys are on the right path, we just haven't asked the right questions yet.
