www.aljazeera.com...

Kurdish Peshmerga fighters have fought their way to Iraq's Sinjar Mountains where hundreds of people have been trapped for months by fighters of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group, a Kurdish official said.

"Peshmerga forces have reached Mount Sinjar, the siege on the mountain has been lifted," Masrour Barzani, head of the Iraqi Kurdish region's national security council, told reporters from an operations centre near the border with Syria on Thursday.

The assault, backed by US-led air strikes, ended the months-long ordeal of hundreds of people from Iraq's Yazidi minority, who had been besieged on the mountain since ISIL stormed Sinjar and other Kurdish-controlled parts of northern Iraq in August, he said.

"All those Yazidis that were trapped on the mountain are now free," Barzani said, but added that the Peshmerga had not yet begun to evacuate them.

He said 100 ISIL fighters had been killed - a claim that could not be independently verified

The US and allied aircraft have carried out 1,361 raids against ISIL since bombing began on August 8, Terry said.

The advance of the ISIL fighters had been halted and the group was having difficulty moving and communicating as a result of the air campaign, he said.

There was a 60 kilometer corridor opened up earlier by YPG for the refugees to escape from MT. Sinjar . But the corridor was later closed by an ISIS offensive this fall. Another Major offensive was made by the Kurds to break the Siege of Mt. Sinjar.

More good news below

Kurdish Peshmerga fighters have reported more gains against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group, a day after they broke a months-long siege around the Sinjar Mountains.Kurdish forces liberated Sinune, the biggest town west of Mosul near the Syrian border on the third day of attacks against the IS ..

Peshmerga fooled IS by bombing Mosul districts of Talafar and Al-Aiadia. Thus, IS was expecting a major attack in these districts and moved its force from Shingal to Talafar, leaving a few IS fighters in Shingal. Thats how Peshmerga's could easily break IS siege of Shingal

Why isn´t IS attacking israel?

Theres your sign…

Another is how does this (I)maginary (S)tate seems to continue to be a threat without air superiority?

Toppling Syria is the real goal. That plan is proceeding. ISIS will exist until that goal is achieved. Then they will melt into the background morass with all the other factions left to in-fight over the remains, just_like_libya.

To the Kurds, WAY TO GO! Kurd fighters are tough as nails, IS needs to pack a lunch to challenge these guys

Because they know they dont have the forces or the equipment to do so right now.......

To go up against Israel right now would deal a death blow to much of their fighters.....

Also look at a map.......strategically at this point it doesnt make any sense to risk that large of a decisive battle .......

Thats why

less then half a page in and someones already trying to elude ISIS being an Israeli front........for the love of pete people......not everything evil in the world is because of Israel, no matter HOW bad you want it to be.......

Says more about you really then it does them.......

Exactly. At the moment ISIS can not capture some Israeli town, it is unimaginable. The only place where they might be near Israel border is North Golan Height. Though I don't think they control that area after some fightings there few months ago.
Anyway, at this point asking why ISIS is not trying to cross Israel border is almost the same like asking why some Mexican Narcocartel gangs are not invading USA. Israel still has superiority in air, tanks, lot of artillery and not a small standing army in the borders. 20-40k poorly equpped Jihadi fanatics can not invade Israel at this stage. If and when Israel will fight on many fronts with many enemies, they may try to invade, but not by their own and at this time.

Same reasoning goes for Saudia. ISIS guerilla forces captured areas where was vacuum of power, but at this moment they can not fight reasonable modern armies offensively.
So, they shot down first airplane after about 3 months
www.theguardian.com...
It was Jordanian pilot, so he may be not the best pilot in the world, without proper aid etc. But, imagine 1 airplane in 3 months. If they attack some proper army, they will be squashed.

There seems to be discontent among ISIS groups, which are starting to splinter off into their own militia type groups now.
