its essentially the same principle, these 2 ex british soldiers took it upon themselves to enter syria to fight their own war.

if they were muslims then they would be getting a lengthy sentence now.

why 1 rule for us and 1 for them?

www.express.co.uk...

they do not represent the state so therefore what do they weish to gain other than revenge killings for the beheading of an aid worker.

its the same principle, if we actually livedby the laws of these lands then these 2 individuals should face the same charges jihdadists returning from the same areas.

they left for the same reasons to fight in that country essentially, so does this mean tht every british citizen is free to go to syria take up arms for a few months and return home with no problems?

if they had been brown i imagine this would be alot different.

You may be right...

But my understanding of the Law states you cannot go abroad to join the fight on the side of terrorist or unrecognised rebel factions.

so does this mean tht every british citizen is free to go to syria take up arms for a few months and return home with no problems?

I'd be surprised if these two weren't made an example of so it doesn't set precedent...
In the same way I wouldn't be surprised if it was swept under the rug.

You can never tell with the ultra-conservative government we have at the moment.

Because they went to fight against ISIS...good on them.
After watching the video they didn't get paid and did it to help others.
Deserve a medal.

Jamie Read is from my home town...Wannabe Operator, Got the Beard and everything. He lasted two weeks and came scuttling back home.
Everything was posted on Facebook, even his address. His Girlfriend was loving the attention..seemed like a great idea at the time. now he has security cameras and alarms all around the house and Armed response on speed dial...

Oh, and now his neighbours need to live with the threat of some mad jihadi's blowing up his and surrounding houses..Way to go Operator.

It is pretty simple...they did not go abroad to join a murderous gang of thugs.

They went abroad to join the fight against a murderous gang of thugs, one universally recognized as a heinous criminal terrorist organization.

So, no, the same rules do not apply (as to those who leave their homeland to fight for ISIS).

Just to add what If we (brits) did not enter WW2 and many lads went over to fight the nazis anyway? they would be heroes.
ISIS are to me at least the Nazis of our time, it is the right and moral thing to do to fight them.

some regard the jihadists to be heroes

just depends what side of the coin you are on.

neither side represents a hero to me.

isis wouldnt exist without western funding.

i wish people whos only source of news is the bbc or fox news would stop replying.

First rule of freedom fighting, do not join facebook, twitter, or any data mining blog, don't make videos, tell anyone, leave a note, leave a will, or forwarding address, actually, just don't go!

they shouldnt be allowed to return, if they feel like syria is their fight then they should stay there.

just the same as the british jihadists getting 5-14 years on return.

they should face the same charges.

Because they're freedom fighters, not terrorists.

ISIS/ISIL/Daesh are a recognised terrorist group who have a penchant for beheading aid workers and journalists. They were fighting against this group, so are deemed as doing the right thing, it's all a matter of perspective By the Government.

See how it works?

no i want people who dont support blind patriotism.

if you cant see hypocrisy in british non state fighters are allowed to return home to freedom, they went out there becuase they felt they "had" to.

much the same as the jihadists who felt they "had" to defend their home countries.

tell me please what under what reality this seems a legit way to run a country? please enlighten.

1 mans terrorists is anothers hero.
