what is the deal with nyotaimori?

i dont understand it
nyotaimori is the practice of eating sushi off a naked woman.

now i love sushi but it would be a cold day in hell i ate it off some strange ladies body
this is crazy popular and not just in japan....

can anyone explain why? have you done it and did you like it? if you liked it, why?

to me this is just another in a long line of strange ass japanese customs/practices

its so friggin gross.
im thinking that this is something that rich, high society type people do just because they can




im struggling to find a reason people do this other than they can.
any ideas?

On a more serious note though Japans culture is so far removed from my own nothing suprises me about anything they do.

No, but then again, it's just a slimy Yakuza invention with no historical precedent that allows them to thumb their nose at their own culture. It's sort of an anti-establishment meme.

I would say it has something to do with ones tolerance to queasiness(for lack of a better word) combined with a certain level of sexual fetish(seems rather mild to me). I've never done this but that has to do with my absolute disgust of sushi and nothing to do with eating food of a naked woman's supple skin. The gross part is the raw fish not the women!

I suppose if you don't get it now I don't think you ever will as the experience seems highly subjective toward individual tastes.

I think that may explain the correlation. there is a deeper meaning there, although I doubt that is what the ceremonial meal is typically about.
