I'll take real bacon too. It just doesn't seem right if it doesn't crunch. I don't like bacon bits unless I crumble freshly made bacon.

I like potatoes fried in bacon grease too.
A little butter right at the end to flavor it perfectly.

It's no good unless it's streaky bacon flavour!

You crumble bacon?
Oh yeah its that crappy streaky bacon that you cook and serve like a packet of frazzles crisps.
I suggest you try proper bacon thick cut smoked and its called back bacon.

Silence! you're making me dribble. BTW, a tip, streaky is brilliant microwaved, cooks right through and makes crackling. The microwave is crap for the leaner back bacon though..not recommended.

I'm a veg and I prefer fake bacon. Real bacon was always a little too greasy for me no matter how I cooked it. Plus the fake stuff can be eaten uncooked, and when it is it tastes like pastrami.

Hahaha I know what you mean. I get looks all the time when I buy fake bacon. I'm not going to say it's healthier than real bacon, it's loaded with salts and other bad things. Real bacon's too greasy for me.

I ate slab bacon once, we cut it really thick.

I'm a convert though, I love tofu, seitan, and all that stuff.

Despite identifying as a Christian I'm a pureblooded Seitanist.

Dang it, why did I click on this? Now, I'm hungry for bacon. There's nothing like bacony goodness to make everything just right. It's great with everything, although I haven't tried it on ice cream yet. That's a bit weird but I'm sure is good. Anywho, I have to go wipe the drool off. Thanks for the post.

PS. Never, ever, fry bacon in the buff. The pain from splatter hitting certain body parts is describable.

I prefer homemade bacon slabs that are hot-smoked so you can eat it like a cold cut or cook it. Also no nitrates/nitrites is a good thing I hear

You probably should have stayed at a better place then, thick-cut bacon is fairly easy to get and there are numerous local producers making various recipes. My local market carries several brands and flavors and the farmer's market by me has two artisanal producers that sell directly.

Once you've had bacon from a wild hog that has spent its life eating acorns and pecans, there is no going back.
The grocery store stuff is usually all fat and way over salted.

here a little golden nugget let the bacon fat cool and turn into lard then smear it all over your christmas trukey as you would butter. Makes the skin nice and crispy and gives a subtle bacon flavour to the bird.... YUM
