Ebola vaccine trial suspended after side effects

This one comes in the form of an exeptionally ( deliberately? ) vague press release about the Ebola vaccine in the works:

Swiss researchers have suspended the testing of one of the leading Ebola vaccine candidates after some volunteers reported unexpected side effects.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Hopitaux Universitaires de Geneve said the trial had been suspended "as a precautionary measure." The study involving 59 people began in November.

Some volunteers reported unexpected side effects? Considering that a couple of months ago most of the world would have happily risked major side effects just to get a dose, I am left wondering just what these side effects are? Diarrhea? Lethargy? Growing extra limbs? Glowing in the dark? Zombies? Developing X-ray vision that causes their heads to explode?

On one hand you have a disease that is likely to make you die by way of bleeding out of your orifices. On the other hand you have a vaccine with a few unanticipated side effects. You're infected. Chose.

Thought so.

So why the minimal press release with the vaguary? Especially from Big Pharma. A power so wieldy that it can get dangerous drugs passed, world wide, without much effort at all. I mean if they can get every possible mutation of the Flouride molecule passed as pych meds mostly meant to keep rebellious teenagers, overworked folks, and bored home dwellers from offing themselves - surely they can push through a lifesaving drug to stop a plague. Right? Even the Polio vaccine had dangers, but every kid in the western world got one.

So what's the hang up? I have a theory. Profits.

Stay with me on this one for a second... When Ebola was threatening the Western world there was a VAST FORTUNE to be made from the fear. But that flare-up died out early in the research process. Now we're left with Ebola comfortably back home in it's native land of Africa - a country where most medical care is provided by non-profits and humanitarian aid groups - people who get their medication at a cut rate or free.

In other words the incentive of insane profits has left the building and suddenly we get this hiccup.

You know that fish that Norweigan people eat. The one where they let a herring sit out and rot for months and then consume it?

Yeah, this smells like that stuff.

They should quarantine those 59 people, and destroy any vaccine remaining, and all related materials as well...

The whole time they were hyping EBOLA doom porn I was cracking up telling people that they better not get the vaccine!

Thank god this is the result, it spares many, many people from whatever those god forsaken side effects are!

I also hope this helps people begin to piece together the whole media/corporate scam that happens on a regular basis.

It blows my mind that people who watch MSM, do not catch on to the whole, nonstop fear drivel followed by the latest anti-depression pill commercials! Could they be any more blatant about how they use psychology against the masses!

Could be, but I always suspected the recent mass outbreaks in Africa was due to a botched vaccine/cure test and never reported as such.

whats funny is a pill for mild pain in your foot might cause bleeding from the ass and thats fine. perfectly normal. prescribe away.

Honestly, I thought the number of ebola cases would increase exponentially, however I've just checked wikipedia and the total cases are rising linearly. No exponential increase, at least not now. We will see, but for now I say doom-porn as well.

What I thought.

Side effects are hardly devastating...

Just another patented drug that has side effects. At least this one is not as bad as the problem. Most drugs today have worse side effects than the problem. There are much better ways to treat it at the moment though. But not to profit off of so you won't hear about them.

Why? because I said so, and the quarantine should be for life. But it is probably too late.

Some pharmaceuticals actually include in the list of side effects-"sudden death"-and i'm not halfway #ting you,either-that's why i do not take pharmaceuticals anymore,except the most basic otc painpills.Here's the rub-in my country,South Africa-the highly scheduled pharmaceuticals used to be called "ethicals" LOL

I'm having a hard time finding out what the outrage here is.

A chemical that was thought to do one thing is doing another and thus the trial is ended.

Pretty standard stuff for anyone that knows anything about how these things happen.

No, the volunteers didn't already have ebola. It would be reckless to continue the trial without first understanding exactly why these side effects are occurring and what the potential ramifications could be.

Potential ramifications? Such as hemorraging out of every single orifice in an excruciating and rather slow death - all things considered?

Speaking in terms of triage, if a patient is already infected and showing signs of deterioration from this particular virus there is not much one could to do make it worse.

It just so happens that the OP is familiar with the entire process, from isolating the molecule(s), to testing, to human testing, to petitioning the FDA for approval ( lining pockets ), to proprietary release, and then onto the generic market.

Slight side effects being shown in a treatment for hemorragic fever and being used as an excuse to delay testing is like saying that the ball game needs to be called because seats 48-B through 48-r aren't as comfy as normal. The bigger picture is much more important than the smaller.

I stand by my premise that the tests were stopped because the promise of a panic in the western world passed - and with it the opportunity to make oodles and oodles of cash. Big Pharma doesn't research nor produce anything, anymore, that doesn't hold the potential to be a huge profit machine and that also promises molecular derivatives so that the proprietary rights will last longer.

Curing destitute Africans is not a profit margin positive business model.

Or, you know, a vaccine that doesn't even work but kills you anyway in the process. That's the whole point of safety and efficacy trials.
