These days I'm interested in finding some new electronic music to appreciate and get some ideas from.

I know there is lots out there, but I find it very hard to find any good experimental electronic music. I'm not really into the dub step, house, hip hop thing. I like interesting ambient beats that are unusual and more about pleasing and surprising the auditory sense than genre specific commercial beats for dancing and the youth.

I am sure there are some interesting electronic artists out there, but I'm not very good at finding them. There must be some good Japanese artists, there used to be, but it is a hard world to navigate. I remember myspace being so good for that in its heyday. I could find music from all over the world and say nice things to the artists. There is nothing that has replaced it for informality and choice quite the same.

Industrial soundscapes, wind generated beats, bird calls...

soundcloud, mashups, juxtopositions...

Inspiration on micro-levels is the key, building those juxtopositions through to a satisfiable personal level to then use at larger scales...

Look up the band Hanatarash. They're either abrasive or refreshing. It depends on who's listening to it.

Mixcloud and soundcloud are good as mentioned, a little frustrating to navigate at times though.

My favorite eclectic/downtempo/chill show was always the Blue Room by Rob Da Bank on BBC Radio One. It was always on after the essential mix on Saturday nights. Still some good shows posted around the web.

My wife likes LTJ Bukem as chill music, even though its DnB. I couldnt agree more. Check out this link if you dig it, grab his "Progression Sessions" albums, or anything on the "Good Looking Records" label

Good luck with your search always tough to find good tunes!

You might try the group Matmos. The did some work with Bjork. They were the first ones who came to mind when you said you wanted more of an ambient electronic type sound.
You could also look at the Chill Out compilations.

Here is an article about them, gives you a pretty cool idea of who they are and the sounds they come up with.
