So, a bit of backstory: I'm 23, female, and up until a couple of years ago I thought that anime was stupid and weird and didn't understand why people liked it until my fiance introduced me to Bleach, which I was certain that I would hate. But I ended up loving it because of the good characterization and emotion.

I've only read one manga so far--Bleach. And it's pretty good atm. I haven't read it in a while though so I need to catch up atm.

With regards to anime, here are some of my favorites:

D-Grayman

Trinity Blood

Bleach

Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood

Aku No Hana (flowers of evil)

Kuro#suji (black butler) (1 & 2)

One Piece (which is arguably the best anime I've seen. just hilarious beyond belief at times)

I have Crunchyroll after exhausting Netflix's supply of anime. I've watched a lot of anime that I didn't mention but chose only the ones that really stood out for me. I usually like shonen the best. I'm not really into the over-sexed up chicks of something like Queen's Blade because the whole hentai-esque thing kinda grosses me out but yeah to each his or her own.

Currently, I'm finishing up Rozen Maiden and starting Fairy Tail. I'm also keeping up to date on One Piece and Shippuden.

So...anyone else a fan of this sort of thing? Please share your favorites here. I personally would like some ideas for new ones to watch

~peace

Evangelion is nice, too.
DBZ for me.

Okay, I am too much on reddit for my own sanity, but... I really thought reading the thread's title "what kind of neckbeard/fedora-owner will show up?"

Sorry, didn't want to embarrass anyone, just... Curious.

I've concluded that all the best animes are only 2 seasons long.

Code Geass, Guilty Crown, Deathnote, and Blood+.

Death Note ... Ghost in the Shell... my two faves.

Full Metal Alchemist isn't bad... neither is Bleach... and I'm sure there are other great ones I just haven't seen, though GITS has some sexism issues like much Manga... for example a fully competent female lead, Major, with size DDs, and a low cut slink costume she wears to her secret police job.

My gf hated that aspect, and I have to agree, though I could ignore the stupid sexist pandering to the hormonally challenged for the neat ideas/stories presented.

But it can be good art... if experienced with a certain low expectation and ignoring of parts of the whole, that is... but I tend to over-think this stuff, too.

Berserk, the manga.

There is an animated series I haven't seen.

Three movies which are good but barely touch the tip of the iceberg.

(Golden Arc I, II and III)

Main character's name is Gatsu (aka Guts).

He was found by a mercenary group as an infant, in the mud.

Naked and cold, under the hanged woman who was his mother.

It's the story of his life. It takes place in the dark ages.

Genre is dark fantasy.

Also check out some of Miyazaki's films. I usually enjoy them.

Spirited Away
Princess Mononoke
Howl's Moving Castle

To name just a few.

As far as series go,

I enjoyed Code Geass.

Log Horizon is one on crunchy troll that's fun and interesting imo.

Cowboy Bebop is by far my favorite though.

Vampire Hunter D is one of my favorite full length animes. Right up there with Akira the original Ghost in the Shell film and Miyazaki's stuff. VHD is actually what got me into manga/ anime. I was like... 11?

I hate gory and violent ones, like romance, or shows that have some redeeming qualities, but its hard to not have some of that crapola in good shows.

But in the vampire categories liked: Trinity Blood. Liked his elderly, wise and somewhat funny character, but then of course as usual it gets too ugly at times like most of them.

Inuyasha was always one of my favorites, especially the character of Sesshoumaru. Redemption, and his heart grows via becoming a reluctant hero protecting a human child, who he can't return to the village as she was beaten and even he had some codes beyond just ruthless.

I love stories of redemption, they're my favorite ones.

My favs are Naruto Shippuden (at the top), Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood, and Aang and Korra Avatars.

Got my girl hooked on Naruto, and it only took going back to the first episode to do so. Now, we eagerly await the next English dubbed release. I could start the Eng Subbed, I suppose, but my girl says that they talk too fast and the words are hard to read. Can't win them all, I suppose.

I'll have to put it on my watch list in that case.

I saw you mentioned Lupin the 3rd! Man that show gave me so many laughs! I should go rewatch that. If I recall, the movie wasn't bad either. I just found this too: Lupin III
Don't know anything about it. Interesting though.

Yes! Lupin is freaking hilarious. It has it all action, comedy, intrigue. Just a all around solid anime. And yes that is exactly what it seems, a live action Lupin film. Seems legit.
