For the same reason that when they design a brand new type of jet, they test it. When they design a brand new car and build it, they test it. You do not design things like that, build it, and just put it out there, keeping your fingers crossed.

Orion is brand new. It's using new materials, new technology that did not exist during the Apollo era. You don't just build it, stick your astronauts in it and send them on their way, hoping it will work and that there will not be any problems.

They'll do the same thing with the SLS launching system when it's put together: They'll test it....a LOT.

Check out all the different unmanned missions they did with Apollo:

Well you are right ...if they genuinely went to the moon some 45 years ago then why they now had to check protection system against lethal radiation of lower layer -Van Allen belts ?

Among other things: Composites

We didn't have them during Apollo. Orion may (roughly) look like an oversized Apollo capsule but the materials it is made out of are vastly different.

And one can do all the ground testing of the materials and their resistance to the types of ionizing radiation the Van Allen Belts present but nothing beats testing it out with a real flight through them.

History can't be changed unless some other reviling facts come in the light ...LH martin mentioned to change the History .
Apollo capsule was made by some thin aluminium/tin skin and can you kindly give me one example when it was sent through VA belts before putting human in to it .
all tests of Apollo were made in the LEO .

Apollo had no protection system against VA belts radiation/cosmic/solar flares .

if you think Orion has better composites material then Apollo and still has to go through protection tests then how come Apollo was immune to these tests when it was built by only thin aluminium ?

don't you wonder why Saturn-v had become history but SL-4 Soyuz have been servicing so amazingly since 1967 over 500 flights and only one failiar ?
Saturn v was not really capable to do what it was known to to do .
for its under power booster stage ,instead to improve the efficiency/thrust of F-1 engines all they did is to feed more kerosene to it which obliviously increased its lifting-off thrust(and some 800feet long flame plume but thrust-weight ratio was no better then 1.2:1 and all good rocket must have minimum 1.5:1 thrust-weight ratio) but decreased it long run efficiency.
so NASA took it as a useless launcher and even had to develop different launcher for space- Shuttles.

The Shuttle was built for LEO, it cannot go beyond the orbit. Saturn V was built for the Moon. You're comparing apples to oranges. There's no point to using Saturn V for LEO. Once the Apollo program was over, Saturn V had no use.

No they were not all LEO. You need to either take a look at links provided, or do the research yourself.

Van Allen Inner Belts normally extend from 1000 km to 3700 km, but have been known to dip down to 200 km.

The Outer Belts normally extend from 13,000 km to 60,000 km.

Apollo 4 Unmanned Apogee: 18,092 kilometers (9,769 nmi)

Apollo 5 Unmanned Apogee: 979 kilometers (529 nmi)

Apollo 6 Unmanned Apogee: 22,533 kilometers (12,167 nmi)
