Here's a politically charged perhaps hyperbolic article on the subject...

Barack Obama is spurring the riots in Ferguson and make no mistake Barack Obama is the Democratic Party. The rioting in Ferguson is an opportunity to distract the public from his unconstitutional amnesty, draconian climate change regulations, his fundamental transformation of our society, and to seize more control over local policing.

Barack Obama is preparing another Executive Order, one which is far less damaging and controversial than the one on amnesty. He is not going to stop the flow of funds and equipment from the Pentagon to the police but he is going to monitor the military equipment they receive.

The problem isn’t in the order, it’s in the task force he is forming on policing, which will focus on “combating crime while building trust in local law enforcement agencies”. Charles Ramsey, Philadelphia police commissioner, will head the panel.

Democratic Party Spurs Riots in Ferguson Because the End Justifies the Means

Sounds like the Democrats want to *own* all the police !!!!

Why is this bad?

Can anyone explain to me why any of this is bad?

Seriously, I come to ATS and laugh at the crazy stuff people say all the time, but I can almost always see why people are saying the things they are saying.

I can't wrap my head around someone having a problem with someone focusing on “combating crime while building trust in local law enforcement agencies”. Why exactly is this bad?

My take is this:

The power given could allow Federal micromanaging of Counties receiving the military equipment.

Just think. They will have full control of all the County level police authority.

Counties that have within them the largest cities that have the largest Democrat voting pockets.

Perfect compartmentalism.

More power than ever.

Everything else is window-dressing.

What more could they ask for?

Well, they could simply not accept the equipment. I mean, that's what I do when someone offers me something with strings attached. Besides, you are really reaching here. What happens when the Democrats are no longer in power? I mean, I was kind of understanding your point until you got partisan, and then you lost me.

In your scenario are the county police going to remain loyal to the Democrats after they are no longer in power? Why would the Democrats need to buy influence in countries that they already have political strongholds in?

My conclusions being partisan is because Obama and his Administration *IS* partisan.

They effectively have 2 years (or more) to achieve more local level police control.

This new idea accelerates the already existing control tenfold.

For example, St. Louis County received loads of military equipment in the last few years (under Obama).

I also base this on the fact that many Republicans at Federal levels are not as "Conservative" as they would like people to believe.

The Progressive leaning Republicans would certainly keep this going if and when they get control of the Executive Branch.

Obama does something genuinely great...

Still gets bashed for it...

As the old saying goes, there is no pleasing some people...

Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in a while, doesn't qualify him as great.

Wow, Obama actually does something laudable for once.

Amazing..

I think body cams are great...

Maybe there would be no riots in Ferguson, and maybe the cops would not have shot so quick in the case of the 12 year old killed in 2 seconds because he had a air soft gun.

This is unreal.

You are blaming YOUR partisanship on Obama. You are literally blaming Obama for your inability to remain unbiased. It's like you believe everything is Obama's fault, including anything that might be your fault. It is very hard to take you seriously because of this.

You got it backwards.

I'm not partisan.

Obama is.

Never let a good crisis go to waste huh?

I'm sad at the response from ats on this, I don't think this is the sort of accountability we want as a precedent. To me body cams will only further entrench this us versus them mentality we see being played out in Ferguson, The police force as a whole is already being painted as Intimidating and a feared entity, so now add cameras recording everything we do, how intemidating will that be?

I know I should have nothing to fear if i haven't done anything wrong, but to me a police officer should be approchable, no one should be afraid to ask for help. I think people will think twice before involving the police in their affairs, and potentially increase paranoia among the masses. Victims of domestic violence potentially could feel even more intimidated reporting it knowing now that a cop with cameras will be showing up at the house.

I think cops need to start walking their beats and going door to door like they used to. They need to engage the community, not intemidating it. Improving communication between law enforcement and the people is one of the most efficient ways to instill a sence of security and safety to the community, not more survalance.

Final thoughts, body cams will divide communities, send more crime underground and give lawyers more meat to sink their teeth into.

Why rely upon secondary sources and partisan commentary when the actual information is readily available here?

Always go to the source to strip away the BS.

Where did he say that the man was great??..I haven't read one post here saying anything near that. But yes even a broken clock is right twice a day.
Police cams..absolutley the right thing to do regardless of who makes or tries to make it happen.

I agree. Can one pop up that will stand up and say "accountability for you too!" instead of just slamming white people every chance they get.
