Actually, here's how it works. #BlackoutBlackFriday actually was started by Ryan Coogler. Coogler made a film called "Fruitvale Station", which was a film about the last 24 hours of the life of Oscar Grant, who was also an unarmed black man shot to death by police. The distribution deal for the film was through Weinstein Company of which, Michael Latt was the entertainment marketing director for the film, Fruitvale Station that happens to have been Ryan Coogler's film.
Now, the guy was the marketing director for a film about an unarmed black man shot by police. Now I know this might actually be hard for you to conceptualize for a moment but imagine that...the man that was the entertainment marketing director for another man's film gets on board for something else that this prize winning filmmaker is doing. And according to his Linkedin, he's not apparently working right now so I guess he has some free time to do something that he might actually think is positive in this world.
Maybe the movie got to him. Imagine that.
PS. Kudos to Latt for using his talents for good.
African-American’s Buying Power Projected to be $1.1 Trillion By 2015
The report’s findings, which will be presented at the June conference of the National Association of Black Accountants Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, found that the African American population is an economic force to be reckoned with, with a projected buying power of $1.1 trillion by 2015.
Also worth noting, the population of African-American consumers growth outpaces the rest of the population by 30 percent. Additionally, the demographic is younger, more educated and has higher incomes than commonly believed.
According to the study: between 2000 and 2009, the number of African Americans attending some college or earning degrees has grown: 45 percent of men; 54 percent of women. Households earning $75,000 or more grew by more than 60 percent, faster than the rest of the population. African American’s average income nationwide is $47,290.
So what does this all mean in business terms? It means African Americans wield tremendous buying power. The Nielsen study showed numerous shopping trends, mostly for household, health and beauty, travel, smart phones and child related items.
“The Nielsen report is very encouraging because it shows the African American population is a tremendous financial asset to this country’s economic recovery,” says Calvin Harris, Jr. , President & CEO of the National Association of Black Accountants.
Across the country, the income gap between blacks and whites remains wide, and nowhere more so than in Manhattan. But just a river away, a very different story is unfolding.

In Queens, the median income among black households, nearing $52,000 a year, has surpassed that of whites in 2005, an analysis of new census data shows. No other county in the country with a population over 65,000 can make that claim. The gains among blacks in Queens, the city’s quintessential middle-class borough, were driven largely by the growth of two-parent families and the successes of immigrants from the West Indies. Many live in tidy homes in verdant enclaves like Cambria Heights, Rosedale and Laurelton, just west of the Cross Island Parkway and the border with Nassau County.
David Veron, a 45-year-old lawyer, is one of them. He estimates that the house in St. Albans that he bought with his wife, Nitchel, three years ago for about $320,000 has nearly doubled in value since they renovated it. Two-family homes priced at $600,000 and more seem to be sprouting on every vacant lot, he says.
“Southeast Queens, especially, had a heavy influx of West Indian folks in the late 80’s and early 90’s,” said Mr. Veron, who, like his 31-year-old wife, was born on the island of Jamaica. “Those individuals came here to pursue an opportunity, and part of that opportunity was an education,” he said. “A large percentage are college graduates. We’re now maturing and reaching the peak of our earning capacity.”

What truly gets me about this whole business is that a policeman should not have to shoot an unarmed person. However, if he is being menaced by a man who is clearly much stronger and able to take him down easily, then surely he should shoot to drop, not kill.

Well, you see, even a rich white guy can be a wigger! You know a society is in decline when the wealthy start trying to emulate the lowest class in that society.a reply to: TinfoilTP

It's been pointed out to you twice now that the title is an outright lie, and the lie is repeated a few times throughout the article but does note that Ryan Coogler is the 'leader' and Michael Latt was just the marketing specialist.
This thread needs to be removed or moved to LOL.
