Diablo 2.

Awesome sound track, it still stands out even now after all these years. I know there has been so much good music in games since then but Diablo 2 still sounds so good. The acoustic guitar pieces used to mesmerize me and still do.

Myst has fabulous music throughout the series, it's all very immersive. My favorite music was out of Myst 3: Exile.

Main theme:

Atrus' study:

Edanna:

Star Trek Online has an amazing score & ambient music, too. The composer they work with on some music deserves kudos.

The main theme should be someone's national anthem, seriously:

The Cardassian Battle suite is considered one of the most beautiful in the game:

A simple looped flute solo that plays on Bajor

New Romulus theme, the most beautiful music in the game, IMO

Music that makes going to Q's Winter Wonderland event well worth the time:

Ambient track that plays at one of the space stations. Very ethereal:

I agree with Myst Exile. I went looking for a YouTube link when I saw your thread the other night and ended up falling asleep to the Exile sound track before pasting it here, which had been my intention, lol.

Pretty much anything composed by Jeremy Soule. Among many others, he has done the music for the Elder Scrolls series, the Guild Wars series, and Knights of the Old Republic. Those are probably my favorites.

Jeremy Soule. Congratulations you have won the thread.

Excellent choice.

That tune, so bold, so hopeful and yet so melancholic. The first tentative steps out into a land which did not care for you, into a fantastically fully-fleshed, alien culture - which did not want you. Perfectly foreshadowed by that wonderfully abrupt parting phrase at the end of character creation: "You're on your own now. Good luck." (What? What do you want? We're done. Sod off.)

I read somewhere of the drums... heart of Lorkhan. Cosmic.

Aha, here we go:

From 0:00-0:08 is the regular beating of a solo bass drum, which carries on throughout the entire piece. This sounds like the ba-dum of a heartbeat and is suggested to in fact be the Doom Drum, which is the sound of Lorkhan's Beating Heart from within Red Mountain. This sets the mood of the piece and holds the entire track together, much as Lorkhan holds Life together, and as his Tower, Red Mountain, helps hold Life on Tamriel.

While perhaps not the most impressive arrangement I thought the login music for Anarchy Online was excellent in setting the mood and seemed to become more fitting the more time spent in world:

Love this thread idea. Have so many, but will start with one.

Suikoden. Neclord.
This song is playing in the background as you are fighting your way up a HUGE gothic tower, facing ghosts of dead people that either you have killed, or neclord has killed. And at the top? Neclord himself, playing this on a huge organ.

Beautiful song, but depressing.
Passacaglia

Metal Gear Solid 4 and even the ones before had AMAZING OST's.

Btw, Shadow of the Colossus theme is amazing. Loved it ever since 2007. Infact the opening scene is totally mesmerizing.

I just remembered Tidus theme from FFX. Gives me major nostaliga. Such a good game.
