This is actually quite a nasty quake given the depth and location (only 10 kilometers down)

A magnitude 6.8 earthquake shook Nagano Prefecture in central Japan on Saturday at about 10:08 PM local time or 13:08 UTC. Officials at Japan's Meteorological Agency say the focus was at a depth of about 10 kilometers in the north of the prefecture. They say there is no danger of a tsunami. The tremor registered intensities of 6-minus on the Japanese scale of 0 to 7 in parts of Nagano Prefecture. Areas in neighboring Niigata Prefecture registered intensities of 5.

You can see that some have reported the shaking as "Violent" (!)

-Lots of damage, hopefully not many casualties.

China too, same day. ouch.

Western China, so probly not related?

*A strong earthquake struck a lightly populated, mountainous area of western China on Saturday, killing at least one person and causing minor damage to buildings, officials and state media said.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the magnitude-5.9 quake had a depth of 9 miles. It struck in the late afternoon about 20 miles from the town of Kangding in Sichuan province. China's seismological agency gave the magnitude as 6.3.*
