MILAN A three-judge panel on Friday absolved Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi of corruption charges, dropping one charge because of insufficient
evidence and another because the statute of limitations in a 1991 case had run out.
The verdict, ending a decade-long legal battle, spared Italy painful questions about Berlusconi's political future, and would seem to strengthen his
position at a time when his popularity has fallen.
Berlusconi, in a written statement, welcomed the verdict as "better late than never."

Does this free up Italy from its doggin past of corruption to be more active in the global sphere of politics and the war on terrorism? Yes it does.
Withought the opposition side of politics being able to scream and shot at Berlusconi he will be able to lead the nation to another great position in
the world bringing Italy out of it's slump in world affairs recently and be more proactive.
