It seems that you all were right in saying that ebole would not become a major problem for the u.s.

I am glad that my comments and others turned out to amount to nothing.

I still stand by the fact that we were presented with a real danger and for a moment the cdc dropped the ball but seemed to do the right thing overall.

Now i am hoping that the sucess the u.s. had will spread to places where it is needed.

I think that the more everyone sees the other side the closer we can get in our actions. My heart goes out to those who have lost the battle but my hope is extended for our future.

I say good job to all involved.

That title is a perfect example of needing a well-placed hyphen. I thought the thread was going to be about fear posters who are anti-Ebola. I was thinking "Who the heck is pro Ebola?!"

Now I get it. I agree. I'm glad I didn't go overboard with my worry. But I gotta admit, there were a couple days there where I mentally prepared for scenarios of a local outbreak and where I would take my family.

Cool that you admit others were right!

(many wouldn't ever do that)

But are we certain that the ebola threat has ceased?

So long as they are flying half-dead patients into this country, the threat will not cease.

That said, Im far more concerned about the THOUSANDS that are dying in other countries from the disease.

Be mindful that the job of the "Ebola Tsar" was to silence the media on the matter.

Some issues to note:

1. Has any other organization besides the CDC verified the blood samples from these Ebola patients or suspected Ebola patients?
2. How would we know if any other people have died from Ebola since the news pretty much died and the CDC is the only ones from what I can tell that are verifying blood samples. You don't even hear about it much on the radio from idiot DJs.

I still believe the illness is a threat, we just aren't being flooded with information on it anymore.

This is a great teaching example of the Boy Who Cried Wolf. Ebola is no joke. But many people were all giddy at the prospect of a Walking Dead reality coming to a town near you. The problem is, it takes the focus off less glamorous but far more likely and far more deadly diseases. At least now may Africa will get the help they've needed for better than a decade to manage the disease at the source.

I agree with the thoughts that we are not completly out of the woods yet and that a small number of other cases could have been out there. However if it were a real danger then someone here would have lost someone they know. It could still mutate but the extreme proceedures in treatment are likely what is doing the job. At this point we can not let our gaurd down and we should be very cautious about bringing anymore in. We still have to get through winter before any more zmapp will be made and that does not help other countries problems. I am aware that the the czar was hired to put a lid on the situation but it is what was needed at the time but not necessarily in the future. We were close to implosion with fear then. I think we can all take a deep breath and still be very cautious in the matter.

If you want a real conspiracy, just review how the ebola fear machine stopped shortly after the mid-terms.

I'm following an independent journalist (Jon Rappoport) as he chases the CDC for FOIA regarding the entity known as Ebola.

Accoring to him, the virus has never been definitively isolated in human tissue. And it's no coincidence that the vaccine makers all fast tracked trials simultaneously. Some significant questions to be answered there. It wouldn't be the first ruse by the CDC and drug makers.

It might just be another predatory corporate marketing program to get people hyped.

Sounds a lot like "HIV".

Do you have a source on it never having been isolated? I hadn't heard that but it would come as no surprise to me considering that they pushed for the vaccine so vehemently and quickly. It would be a real easy thing to make a lot of money off of.

i thought it was lots of fun to see people jump into the doom porn bus.
this was NEVER an issue, at no single time was there ANYTHING pointing to a possible crisis, but 5 cases= epidemic because that's how we roll.
still the stupidity of the mayan prophecy is without equal.
I hope one day a worthy opponent the the nibiru or whatever it was called will rise.
ebola wasn't it.
now i have no idea about your specific posts so i am not judging you directly.
But the majority of people need to admit they were stupid and blew it out of proportion to get attention or because of their doom porn fetish.

Was just about to say....its not over yet lol....

sure in the usa it may be controlled...ive mentioned before...there is nothing stopping the occasional case springing up every now and then but the fight is still going on in africa...we dont see it in the news cause no one in the media gives a # about africa...its not over yet although there seems to be promise in some areas and a mess in others.

The only thing stupid is how people assume that it was only the doom porn side of ebola that we were worried about. Just the other day new york wants like 20 million for some ebola thing....over 1 million ebola suits were ordered...there will be and have been lawsuits over ebola...that is the # that scares me.

Hell Mexico ordered over 4000 ebola containment beds or something like. This also showed america had no #ing clue what to do....if not ebola then something else....we had next to 0 resources to deal with this. 0 protocols. Ya thats scary as # lol...

There is nothing stopping another case hopping over to the usa and it causing 50 million in damage one way or another. Its still going on in africa...

That's what I was going to say. It takes guts to start a thread to say, "Seems I was wrong".

I'd rather shout bloody murder before the murder, not afterwards. I've studied the Spanish Flu outbreak and I'd be willing to bet that the people affected by that would have LOVED to have had enough warning to lock down borders and stop international traffic before it got loose. It killed more people than all the wars of the 20th Century. There's a very small window of time to control a pandemic before the fact and we've dodged that bullet many, many times now over the last decade. It truly is a matter of when, not if, and Ebola is every virologist's worst nightmare, if indeed that is what we're dealing with.

Take a look at this and tell me; how many people on board these flights may be sick? What with?

I have to wonder if the "ebola" outbreak was even real. Some of these stories of people who have "caught ebola" in the U.S. have serious holes in them. How could Nina Pham have come out of the hospital (in for only 12 days, and smiling while under quarantine) and gone RIGHT to a podium to give a press conference (with her hair and makeup and clothing PERFECT), then onward on that same day to the White House to see Obama??? REALLY? I believe Amber Vinson did something similar, not sure if she saw Obama. We haven't heard anything from Craig Spencer, other than that interview with one of his supposed neighbors, who did not recognize a photo of the man we've seen in the news. Hhhhhmmm. Kent Brantley and Nancy Writebol (write-ebola?) both made amazing recoveries, and when interviewed by Anderson Cooper, Nancy Write-ebola stated that she was never nauseous and never threw up or had diarrhea. REALLY??? Is that ebola?

No one fears ebola more than I do... I'm not trying to play it down (I'm what you'd call an "emetophobe" anyway)... so death by stomach flu would be the worst thing in the world... but I don't know if Duncan was real or a hoax... if so I feel terrible for him, but the rest of these people who have been paraded about in our news seem to be hoaxers. How in the world did none of Duncan's family get the virus, if Duncan vomited all over the apartment???

Feels like we are being heavily manipulated with this, at their whim. Firstly, we have to realize that our government is either incredibly inept (yes, but probably not to THAT degree), or else they WANT it to spread, both extremes are evidenced by their allowing flights from affected areas to continue. Also, yes it is rather interesting that ebola has simply vanished from the news headlines.

You were never presented with real danger. You were presented with fear, in order to enact policy changes. It's now alright to take away someone's freedom if they are sick, or have the potential to be sick.

You're right of course, and I'll bet we will see ebola come roaring back into the news within a few weeks with this new part of the agenda firmly attached. That and a possible mandated vaccine (or, the vaccine with varying degrees of forced compliance such as all medical personnel, with the intent of eventually forcing everyone to take the vaccine).

I have to agree. I was pretty adamant about the whole issue. I am really happy that all turned out for the best or at least is well on its way. I am now looking for flights to NY since I have to go for work reasons. I was actually putting it off until things got cleared up.

I am not too big to admit I was wrong. I think its better to err on the side of caution but ultimately it was unfounded here.

Nice thread. It is refreshing.

Have a good one!

Nice thread!

I was wrong too, I really thought things would get pretty serious all over the world... that's not to say that the African countries suffering with this aren't important, but it's a small comfort that it didn't spread worldwide, right?
