We are doing just fine. Got work to do but it's ok over here. Debt is just a tool. Can print more. Really that's how it works. We have all the resources we need. Some of best weather and farmlands on Earth. U could cut us off from world and come back in 10 years and we would be even better off. It's true.

Stocks are breaking records, unemployment lowest in 15 years. No one starving. People taking vacations. Sure some are in tough spot but not desperate. Only losers, quilters or just stupid are really suffering here.

Losers, quilters or stupid.
That's a pretty harsh statement about your fellow countrymen.

Agreed. I really do not fault Russia's response. We keep encroaching on their personal space.

Except the fact that the sovereign states around him are not their personal space...maybe if the year was 1989 you might have something, but now the world is different and Putin seems as though he just wants to go in reverse instead of ahead.

You don't see those two warships as war mongering?
Really?

How many fleets has America dotted around the world? fleets comprising tens of ships? and Russia with two is war warmongering? really?

When someone is discussing and threatening the use of nuclear weapons what isn't there to be scared of?

The threat of nuclear war is not what you should be afraid of.

The things that are allowed to pass while the population is paralyzed with fear are what is gonna get ya!

Correct. Fear is an important tool in population control. While there is a potential for a Nuclear War with Russia, I honestly don't think that is going to happen. As I stated in the OP, I think they( Russia) are trying to get a new Cold War started to boost their economy, plain and simple. However, I could be wrong.......

Seriously...

If the US was smart what we would do is stalk out the mini fleet attack it via surprise by submarine and shoot Putin out of the sky as he takes off. Perhaps in coordination with Cia sponsored hits on Putin cronies around the world,

Assassinations don't trigger Nuclear response nor do a couple of ships sinking, there would be a whole lot of shuffling in Russia before War would get declared if you hit the right people at the right time and Putin is in the right place to hit him.

He Just declared war, we'd have every right to, by stating we can't be part of preventing people who would use nuclear weapons against us, well that's tantamount to the destruction of a US city.

Truthfully the Russian people are all right, Kill Putin, Take out the major player around Russia in Tandem and be on the phone with whomever is in charge a week or so later and explain why what Putin was doing was unacceptable... preferably you kill the right people the person who is next in line would be arranged by "you" as the action taker to be someone who wont rally for full scale war

The people of Russia would be pissed, so you find ways to play nice after the fact

But you do it... Putin declared war, there is no if and or but about it, sanctions are NOT virtually sponsoring individuals to acquire and use a loose Nuke, this sort of escalation is one that you act on before it happens not after, Putin shouldn't leave OZ alive.

The cold war might have ended, but Russia is still a big player in the world, so yeah, his neighbors are his personal space. Just like we consider the Western Hemisphere our "personal space". It's the reality of the world. There are no truly "sovereign states". There are a few big guys that dominate and influence all the other little guys around it to get in step with its agenda. So yeah, former soviet republics do qualify as their "personal space".

Think about it. Let's say Canada suddenly made some super resource discovery and became richer than all of OPEC. The people then decided they really liked the old Soviet ideology and system of government, and thus, by vote as well as election rigging and Russian money, became anti U.S. communist socialist republic or something like that. They pull out of NATO, offer to house Russian military and missile bases within a couple hundred miles of the U.S. border, while Russia slams sanctions all over the U.S. for reacting negatively. Seriously, do you think the U.S. government would respect Canada's "sovereignty" and right to choose which side of the fence it was on? Hell no. We'd react to it like a threat, probably even before a communist government got voted in. We'd be pulling assassinations, rigging elections, stirring up crap in border areas too. The U.S. would not tolerate the will of the Canadian public siding with its enemies. We'd react.

Canada doesn't necessarily always have to do what the U.S. does, or run its country the same way, but at worst, they can only afford to be neutral in the case of U.S. military and defense interests. The U.S., being as paranoid as it is, won't tolerate the existence of communism and socialism in the western hemisphere, hence our often ridiculous obsession with Cuba and Venezuela and our dirty dealings in Latin America as a whole.

Some sort of happy medium is going to have to be reached. The E.U. really needs to stop expanding like it is, and NATO needs to back the hell off its expansions. Eastern Europe, while understandably bitter and nervous about Russian domination, there is no need to move European military assets further east. If we really needed to fight Russia, we could do it from anywhere in the world, and with existing facilities and logistics of our current military. We do not need missiles in Belarus or Ukraine. Anymore than Russia would need to have missile bases in Vancouver or Toronto for its defense.

These things Putins does with all the threats is desperate attempt for Russia to be seen as strong. Russia's economy has tanked and whan I say tanked we are talking something that would make the last recession in the US look like the goods times. The Ruble is worthless, inflation is quickly rising, Russia credit is just above junk status, and it losing its biggets arms market in India and Vietnam. All Russia really has is arms and oil. It has been squeezed out of many of its arms markets by China and the West for failing to make deliveries, always being late and sending non working junk. And oil prices are much to low for Russia and still dropping. Now normally a nation in this bad of shape could count on taking out loans to survive. Santions have ruined that chance. So what you seen now is Russia working on nationalising some more of its companies as a short term solution.

Putin knows Russia's militarty is vastly out numbered and out classed by the West. Any direct miltary confrontation would be a disaster for him. So he is doing what North Korea does. Pushing just up to that line so he gets attention but, no beyond it to get destroyed. This is going to be how things are for awhile.

Respectfully, it doesnt much matter what toys we have verses theirs,if it escalates to nuclear. And everyone is blissfully ignorant of just how easy that could happen. Among the things that ARE dilapidated in Russia is its air defense system. It drastically cuts down the lead time between seeing a blip on a radar and deciding whether it is a threat. Which, in the best of circumstances, increases the chance of a nuclear attack by mistake. Now, we are in this situation and the chances of a war starting by accident is higher. I wont debate what could happen or how it could play out, but if we go to total war with Russia, several billion people will die and the survivors will envy the dead. Not how I would like to spend Christmas. Lets hope and pray it doesn't come to that.

To be fair, NK threatens to use nukes all the time but nobody takes them seriously.
Why should we take Russia seriously?

Yes we are the Empire at the moment but Empires come and go and there will come a point when another nation takes up the role of being the Empire. As long as there is a Planet Earth there will be at least one Empire on it.

See, we don't need our silly politicians.

Look at that smile on Putin's face. A rare treat. Australia can win because we offer friendship.

And if that does not work, then we will introduce you to the koala's distant cousin

THE DROP BEAR.

We win with our flora and fauna.

We win your heart or it kills you, either way, a win / win for us.
