No, there are other, more subtle things happening in the economy and the culture that are pushing white guys rightward on the political spectrum.

One that gets me frosted is the routine depiction of white men in commercial advertising as dumb dads and/or macho morons. The tide of political and gender correctness has been so powerful that straight white guys are now the only demographic that can be safely ridiculed.

Women are no longer shown venting frustration over waxy buildup on their kitchen floors, and that's good. But it's OK to depict beer-guzzling guys in sleeveless tees, sprawled on the sofa, mesmerized by TV sports even as something far more important begs their attention. It's a staple of modern advertising.

Consider the new Cadillac commercial that shows a dapper but dweeb-ish guy walking down the street thinking women are staring at him — when actually they're ogling Caddy's new ATS Coupe for 2015. Reshoot that ad with a female or minority playing the fool and advocacy groups would be talking boycott.

Pushing White Guys Rightward

I know a lot of the more liberal members of ATS bemoaned the republican sweep in the last elections; but is this some of the reasons that this is occurred. Has the racist and sexist mocking of the white male in society beginning to be viewed as bigoted? It does seem bigoted sometimes how white males are portrayed. Just like in every segment of the population; there are good and bad members. What happens when nobody can be the bad person? Should all villians be Ultrons?

So he is mad about white people not getting mad how they are portrayed, but then talks down on how other people get mad and that it is silly?
And then tries to prove the point with a hypothetical situation?
Also can only go off of the portion you quoted since it reqs a sub to read more

I have no problem opening up the entire article.

The punching bags are punching back.

How else to interpret exit polls showing 64 percent of white men who participated in last week's midterm elections voted for Republicans?

That's almost two out of three — more than enough to offset big Democratic pluralities among younger women and minorities.

So what did President Barack Obama and the Democrats do to hack off white guys so badly that we voted GOP by the widest percentage since Ronald Reagan wiped out Walter Mondale in 1984?

I think white men are seeing the big picture and recognizing the folly of socialist racism and polylogism in general.

Let's hope more leave the party of hatred and ignorance.

I am most encouraged by the black awakening to this crap though, I fear the easy solution of switching to the Republicans is the best we can hope for until the country begins to consider Libertarianism and small government.

How about a party of centralists.

The myth of the centrist is based on the idea that Democrats and Republicans are opposed to one another in more than specific policies, they are not. Each wishes to use government power to achieve financial, political and social ends. So, in effect, we already have a centrist government where each side of the duopoly takes turns.

Some Republicans are generally correct but, their behavior is in stark contrast to their rhetoric. It will take some time but, I am confident that Libertarianism will proliferate and become a successful political ideology over the next decade.

Well, maybe confident isn't exactly the right word here, maybe hopeful?

I don't think it is just because a white male voted Republican; it is more that 64% of white males voted Republican. If that is a growing number, it represents a shift of view point among white males. It also seems that the writer is saying that it was the first time that he voted for a republican. If that is so, he is questioning why he did and why did so many other white males vote republican.

Yeah because that is what is happening..

You think with only 1/3 of America voting this November that the Democrats should worry?

It is Republicans who should be worried because the people who didn't turn out, will be the ones turning out come the 2016 Presidency elections. Sure the Democratic voters did not turn out...but what does that say about the Republican party...people would rather not vote than vote Republican.

This pretty much sealed the deal for another Democratic Presidency. Two years of a Republican majority government will remind the people as to why they will vote.

The voters screwed themselves for two years...but they will come back with a vengeance come 2016.

Ignoring the suffering and pain or individuals in one group because another group has a larger helping of it isn't a very good way of going about creating a better country, don't you think?

Whites have enjoyed great privileged over other races in this country for a long time, and those wounds don't heal quickly. Because we as a society knowledge that the way things were was wrong, we seek to right that wrong and make things more fair. I think the vast, vast majority of people in this country agree with that and don't want to live in an unjust country even if it benefits them personally.

Imagine a large field represents your personal struggle for success and freedom. To succeed, you just need to walk to the other end of the field, but there is a large wall blocking your path. For long periods of time minorities had to climb this wall with their bloody fingertips and toes, while many whites were given a ladder to get over the top.

Over time it was realized this situation was wrong, so we try and figure out a way to fix it. The obvious choice would be to simply tear down that wall. Remove the barriers to success and freedom so we all have a level playing field. But that's not what happened. Instead, minorities were given ladders too, just different types, different sizes, different rung counts. A few even got a ladder longer than some of the white people had, which made the whites take notice. They now knew how it felt to see someone else be given an advantage over you because of their race. For possibly the first time they felt that sting.

So now they start to talk about being disenfranchised because some minorities were given longer ladders then them. Are they wrong? No. Are they suffering as much as the minorities have? No. If you claim to fight against different rules for different people, you'll fight against ALL ladders. You'll fight to tear down that wall so we can all walk easily on our way, instead of getting bogged down in a series of ladders with signs saying "blacks only" "Whites only" "Asians only"

If you hate racism then fight it everywhere you see it, not just where popular culture tells you it's OK. Make it clear that it's not OK for anyone to judge groups of people based on the few. Make it clear that skin color is not an acceptable way to categorize fellow human beings. But you have to make it unacceptable for everybody, equally, or else you are propagating the same thing you claim to despise, and that is not being done, it's not equally unacceptable for everyone. Furthermore when people point out that it isn't being done, they are attacked by people claiming to be against racism, yet being skilled practitioners of it themselves.

Judging the many by the few is one of the root problems of the racial divide in this country. Yet those claiming to fight against racism, again, are horrendously guilty of judging the many by the few. Us humans aren't perfect creatures, and when we feel threatened we lash out against those who aren't actually threatening us.

Some whites go out and spend time focusing on gangsters and thugs because they want to believe that is what black people are, so that they can feel justified in their unjust hatred of a group of people.

Some blacks go out and spend time focusing on politicians and big business owners to feel justified in their unjust hatred of a group of people.

If whites and blacks traded places, do you think anything would be different? Do you think the scum wouldn't rise to the top if blacks had run the country for the last 200 years? Do you think people would stop being ignorant, angry, lazy, etc and just start getting along?

All racial groups have bad members, and whatever group is the dominant group will be the one who's bad members oppress and subjugate other groups. Change the skin color to anything you want the story is still the same throughout history up until the modern day. This is a very, very serious HUMAN problem. It's something that's wrong with every single one of us.

You are either for fair treatment for all, or against it. Ignoring unfair situations simply because the victim is white and you don't care will never, ever accomplish anything other than furthering racial issues the world over. Please try to consider that before being so dismissive in the future.

I think that you are right, feldercarb.

I would definitely say that the younger white males (college age) were affected more than the older ones-merely because of seeing it everyday in the liberal controlled colleges.

All of that "white males are evil" nonsense kind of bit the left on the rear.

Perhaps I should be thanking the liberals for not caring about the consequences of their words.

Well if 2/3 had voted, the damage would have been twice as bad.

The Democrats are in the beginning of a 10 year recovery program.

A name change is necessary now.

It's their only way out after the Obama devastation.

On the contrary, at least in my experience i see the media increasingly portraying males as feminine (and females as masculine). To me it seems as tho the lines between the sexes are being blurred deliberately. I just don't know why.
But hey, maybe i'm just seeing things.. and this is another topic anyway.

I think white guys turning right has more to do with seeing left ideals not coming through on their promises and introducing more problems than it has to do with what they see on television.

White men voting republican? Shocking.

Men getting upset at how their sex is depicted in modern adverts? Understandable. Republicans fixing the issue for you? Hahahahahahaha!

Why dont you just boycott the products that treat you like a moron? Im sure that's what women did.

Remember, the basis of selling you a product is to get you to relate to it. If they're insulting you, you're not gonna buy it.

Nope..come 2016...it will another democratic president.

Now they have to weed out the traitors who turn tail and ran from Obama.

The republicans won majority on November because barely anyone voted. That will not happen on a presidential election. So savor the victory...there won't be one for long time.

The Majority of American voters do not want a republican dream of the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer. Not too mention the blatant racism, bigotry and sexism that party exudes.
