Everything I own, but I suppose a more palatable wager would be $20? $50? $5,000? You name it. Especially if you're of the mind that Republicans would not "allow something they fought so hard against to pass in two years" (you may know your own state but you also may be extremely naive because 12 months ago you [or maybe not] were probably one of those who suggested the petition wouldn't cross the threshold). Does January 24th, (give or take a day) 2014 to November 4th, 2014 span an entire 2 years, or 10 months? You do realize this wasn't something Republicans were fighting until basically February of this year, no? And no, they (Republicans) weren't actively involved in running commercials to keep citizens from signing on to this petition. This is an extremely fluid issue that is polling 'off the charts' in every place they field a survey.

What was presented in Florida on Tuesday is entirely different from statutory law (a simple majority). Do you think those 58% just changed their minds because Republicans are in control (no idea if Republicans really are in control, but I'll defer to your assertion) and wouldn't be encouraged to vote again for it?? And do you realize this would have been the first medical marijuana initiative to require a super majority??? It missed by 2 points. I should stop. I feel like I'll be taking money outta my own pocket.

I will any day, and everyday, have the default position that a 58% majority on an issue is more than anecdotes about the private-prison enterprise, or a Republican controlled agenda you are suggesting are the obstacles to passage. If you're gonna completely dismiss the demographics (i.e. this a political winner and politicians LOVE to be re-elected, lest you believe 58% approval is the next step to the unemployment line) of the issue, then I hope your head is planted in the sand of the beaches of Destin, as opposed to Daytona. As I am sure, you already know are Republican strongholds.

When originally proposed the bill was polling well over 80%. It polling was over 70% until the last week or two before the election. Read some of my previous posts, especially the one about the DEA now using pitbulls and you will see what side of fence I am on. I want prohibition to end, I want free men and women to be able to grow medicinal plants without fear of a military team armed to the teeth kicking down their door.

I call things like I see it. That wager applies to the 2016 election in Florida. There won't be medical cannabis on the ballot.

Considering you are new to this site, I won't judge you. I've been a member on here for several elections and know the mentality of the Florida Republicans. They truly are neo-Cons and legalizing medical cannabis will hurt their profits and their police state.

I don't doubt for one bit the DEA did everything they could. I would be interested in getting verifiable, validated polling data suggesting anything close to 80%, do you mind providing?

Can we put the wager in our signature's? $50 to your whatever that not only it is on the ballot, but it passes. I am sure you hope you lose

Hello all my first post here. I know that in Oregon it has just set the stage for big tobacco to take it over with monsanto's help.

Welcome to ATS buddy! It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest that tobacco and the dredded Monsanto corp were bed buddies in trying to take over the industry, here's the kicker though! Weed lends itself to the expert and there are many different strains of the plant and it has been hugely genetically modified to produce high yielding plants. This has been done at a "cottage" industry scale or behind the veil of the black market!!! Once this becomes legitimate then I think the genuine growers will have an opportunity to to come out with genuine business's, that's the guys I will go to!

Haven't read the entire thread just yet, but I know for sure that is one of the main reasons California failed to legalize it a few years back.

I believe it was a consortium of growers from the Humboldt county area that banded together and argued that such a move would threaten their livelihood, as monied interests would push them out of business.

But as bad as I may feel for the mom & pop pot purveyors who may lose out to the big dogs, I feel a lot worse for a kid going around with an arrest record or winding up in prison because of some antiquated law.

Some positive news out of Oregon:

Oregon's largest district attorney's office announced Monday that it would dismiss pending cases involving violation-level marijuana possession in light of Measure 91's statewide passage last week.

Multnomah County District Attorney Rod Underhill's office released a statement to The Oregonian on Monday afternoon, saying prosecutors will dismiss a total of 50 pending marijuana cases. All involve marijuana-related activities that will be legal when the new law becomes effective for possession and cultivation July 1, 2015.

According to the statement, the office will not prosecute "future charges for conduct related to marijuana possession and delivery of marijuana which will become lawful under Measure 91 absent exceptional circumstances."

Hopefully other counties follow suit.

On November 5, PRG launched the most comprehensive effort ever to obtain the first congressional hearings on extraterrestrial related phenomena since 1968. This launch began with the shipping of the complete video record of the Citizen Hearing on Disclosure to every congressional office accompanied by a social media campaign. The goal is comprehensive hearings by February of 2015.

I really don't get certain folk's attitudes... how they truly believe their views trump others'... over intoxicants and even matters of simple taste. At it's base is a lack of common kindness, empathy and imagination.

Is it so hard to embrace the simple concept of "to each their own?" Do you really need draconian, fascistic enforcement of a personal choice? Is your position so weak?

Besides, I read a 20 year comprehensive study that pot smokers were 60% less likely to be pedophiles... I can extrapolate some uncomfortable stats about those demonizing recreational and medicinal choices... heh.

(And for the more literalistic dwellers of these forums... that last line was a joke... the first lines were definitely not)

Well said.

I read a few minutes ago that activists in Nevada have already turned in twice as many signatures as legally required to get a legalization measure on the ballot in 2016. Trips to Vegas, already lots of fun, should get more interesting in a few years (maybe earlier if the legislature there just throws up their hands and legalizes beforehand).

"Hey Mildred, come over here, this wheel goes round and round and round and round and round and round...." (and folks will sit there in glee as the slot machines ring and ding and thrill and swirl)

This is what I can understand. At the root of this is control. They can't allow us to make our own choices they have to dictate them. They don't have the right to tell us what we can do with our own bodies and they wouldn't like the citizens telling them they can't do what they want.

So tired of the hypocrisy in this country. Do as I say not as I do.

Nice try at taking a shot at my intelligence....and my status as a Florida resident.

I hope you are right about this one, but I know better. Florida's legal system, probation system, and for profit prison system all make a killing off cannabis being illegal. They were the ones(and Sheldon Anderson, a billionaire casino owner) who were paying for the vote NO on 2 ads prior to the election, they were the ones who were all over social media and news sites saying how the bill is full of loop holes, they are the Republicans and they are now in control. There is no way they will allow something they fought so hard against to pass in two years.

Unless something happens on the federal level, Florida will not pass a medical bill.

You forget that politics in Florida is full of madness. The will of the people does not matter when those in charge are making a fortune off criminalizing a plant. I know my own state and very few civics professors have the real life experience I do.

What would you like to wager on the issue?

Well, I was wrong about the legislature making it happen, but kudos to your follow Floridians for getting medical marijuana passed. I guess the wager would have been a push

Again, very encouraging Florida at least got this right in this election...

No telling how Trump will acquiesce to the Republican strong held view on State's Rights, but California has had 20 years fending off the feds and there's no way in hell legalization in California isn't a reality in 2018. Depending on your source, California has the GDP of the 6-8th largest economies. In the world. Big Cannabis is the 'danger' - not the feds.
