The data in this article is not entirely about turnout but the turnout statistics are interesting.

VOTER TURNOUT BY GROUP

Race/ethnicity:

• Whites: a more Republican voting group -– account for 75 percent of voters in preliminary exit poll results, up from 72 percent, a record low, in 2012.

• Nonwhites: a more Democratic voting group -– account for 25 percent of voters, down from 28 percent, a record high, in 2012.

Age:

• Millennials (Voters age 18-29): a more Democratic voting group, make up just 12 percent of voters -- down from 19 percent in 2012. That's the same as it was in 2010. Note, however, that younger voters may turn out later, so their share may rise in later data.

• Older voters (Age 65+): make up 26 percent of voters, up sharply from 17 percent in 2012. Note, however, that older voters often turn out early, so their share may decline in later data.

So old white people in record numbers and young/nonwhite people way down. Republicans win. Am I surprised? Not at all. The ones who have it good are gonna make it even better for themselves, just like they've always done. Maybe I should open a country club so I can grovel for crumbs. I gotta take what crumbs I can since I'll never be able to enjoy the prosperity of my parents and grandparents.

Looks like voter i.d. had an effect.

Maybe Women too.

Oh and maybe the continuous lying (by politicians) had something to do with it?

Both parties lie so that can't be it.

Voter ID could impact it as it primarily blocks minorities and the poor, both generally Democratic.

I haven't seen any gender stats yet. I'll take a look around.

Nope not women.

"Democrats won women voters. But Republicans, by a wider margin, won the men."

m.wsj.com...

Looks like the only segment that Republicans have a clear hold on is old white men. The march of progress just took a few steps back

Voter ID also stops old white people with expired licenses from voting as well. Remember the 90 year old vet that was turned away from the polls in Texas?

The old have it good in America?

When I was young I remember old people sitting around on their porches or walking their dogs. Now they are cleaning up at McDonalds to pay bills. White, black, or Hispanic the "meals on wheels" program stops by all their doors.

I don't know you from Adam, but I challenge you to come to my neighborhood in Detroit. Look around and then tell me that the "old white people" are any better off than the young minorities. Here we are all in a sinking boat together with liberal weights around our ankles.

The young voters simply didn't have anyone "cool" to vote for this cycle. We can all see what that voting standard has done for us.

More sour grapes and racism. The race card stays out no matter what, right?

It seems that liberals still try to claim minorities, women, illegals, and young people as "their" voters, as it every member of those groups votes democrat.

Grow up already.

White men = what, exactly?? Can you be more specific about white men, exactly? Let me hear what it is that white men ARE to you.

Then tell me what your idea of "progress" is. YOUR idea, not the idea you've been told to have by the media.

More sour grapes insults from the party raging and crying over our black president for 6 years straight, saying he is a Muslim or a Nazi or the Antichrist. Hypocrisy anyone?

Why should the race card stay out of it? Republicans play it constantly. Why can't Democrats?

The young, minorities and women are still by far in favor of Democrats. The stats I showed SEEM to support it. Care to include any facts to back up your suppositions? Shouldn't be too hard to do. This is the internet after all.

I did grow up sir. When I was young and ignorant I ignored politics. I just went along with my family's voting record (Republican). Now that I've seen the world, educated myself, experienced hardship, fought for my beliefs, and pulled myself up by the bootstraps I'm a progressive liberal.

I love them personal attacks though. Keep it up.

My idea of progress is basing our future on science, equality, fairness, and valuing human beings over fiat currency. Sorry that I don't want to perpetuate our current completely shattered world. The way forward is forward not backwards.

I'm very sorry that Republicans miss the days of their youth. Why are you trying to force me to experience them? What happened to the children are our future? That used to be an American motto. Apparently old rich property owning white men are our future nowadays. The march of progress has just turned around completely. It's now a backwards march towards decline.

Not to mention but the turnout was what ... 35-40 percent TOPS of the American electorate?

Last night hardly represents the will of The People. More aptly, it was the will of the Americans allowed to vote.

But keep crowing, Republicans! Keep pitching the same worn-out ideas, and please, do continue to ignore immigration reform and campaign finance reform.

Oh, and please do start Impeachment Proceedings against President Obama as soon as possible; show the People how much you enjoy spending millions on superfluous legal gambits and embarrassing the USA in front of the world!

It boosted Clinton's approval ratings THROUGH THE ROOF! Wonder what it'll do for Obama?

Well....I guess by that same accord, young, poor, food stamp collecting, welfare scamming black kids are what you want in power? I mean if you are going to put all Republicans in the same old white man bag, then I guess all democrats have to fit into one as well.....yeah....those are the children I want for MY future.....please give me handouts!

And tell me, how do you want to do that? Mandate it through legislation? Enforce your will through a police state? That's what has been happening.

How about you consider for a moment that keeping the government's grubby fingers out of everything, if taxes were lowered so that private enterprise could flourish, maybe all that would happen all by itself, since public opinion seems to favor that sort of "progress". Do you ever think that maybe government is actually HINDERING your kind of progress?

I'll implement it by waiting and fighting to get money out of politics. Without the ability to flood the nation in propaganda, demographics ensure victory. My only focus politically now is getting money out of politics.

Hehe so more personal attacks. Bring some data to the table or at least some real arguing.

Wait, so the less fortunate and non whites have it worse so the answer is to NOT vote?

If thats the case then it sounds like to me more of an issue of screwed up logic and laziness then your "White privilege" assertion........

Josef Stalin, Hugo Chavez, Fidel Castro, to name a few. They didn't just say it, they demonstrated it.

Crack open a history book, you might learn something. Make sure it's pre-1980 or so.

You should focus on getting violence out of television, it would be an easier task.
