As late as last month the Navy themselves weren't sure that both aircraft would be able to fly off the ship for various reasons. They were confident that one of them could, but they weren't sure about the other one.

Interesting read on the apparent success of the F-35C trials. It is interesting to see the differences between previous carrier jets and the F-35 in how it approaches and lands.
