The ongoing outbreak of Ebola virus disease, especially in w. Africa, has prompted many states in the U.S. to impose restrictions and guidelines following the first incident in Dallas and subsequent diagnosis of Thomas Duncan.

Since the onset of the Dallas case, there have been several states implementing quarantines and or restrictions regarding the safe passage of anyone coming from affected countries into the U.S.. Although there has been a trial by New Jersey and New York, critics and politicians successfully lobbied the governors to release the first subject held in official quarantine. Since then, others have followed suit and imposed restrictions, albeit in conformity to some degree with transforming CDC guidelines and recommendations.

The new guidelines suggest a different array of categories or risk pools for people who potentially come into contact or direct contact with infected or potentially infected individuals. As we move further along into the pandemic here in the states, it's only logical to surmise that the list of states implementing restrictions and or self monitoring will increase due to the deadly potential of the virus and ease of travel to and from affected regions.

Having said that, below is a list of states that have issued to some degree guidelines for the safeguard of there communities and anyone potentially contracting the virus. It's in no specific order per say, however, feel free to add information and the latest updates.

1. Connecticut

Connecticut officials have joined counterparts in other states – including New York and New Jersey — in defending and detailing quarantine powers they’ve enacted as a precaution against the Ebola virus.

2. New York

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said anyone arriving in the state after contact with Ebola victims in West African countries will be told to stay at home for 21 days, an approach that's more in line with federal recommendations and released after New Jersey came under fire for putting a returning nurse in quarantine.

3. New Jersey

Gov. Chris Christie today defended his decision to place people traveling from West Africa under mandatory quarantine, a few hours after the first person kept under the new rule tested negative for the deadly virus.

4. Illinois

Public health officials issued more detailed and coordinated guidelines Monday for handling the Ebola virus, but differed over the fundamental question of whether quarantining people at high risk should be mandatory.

5. Florida

Gov. Rick Scott announced an executive order Saturday afternoon mandating that all people returning from Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone take part in twice-daily health evaluations for 21 days.

6. Georgia

CUMMING, GA (WALB) - Gov. Nathan Deal announced that Georgia will increase Ebola monitoring for all in-bound travelers from affected countries on Monday.

7. Maryland

State officials expect about 10 to 20 health care workers and others to come to Maryland each day from Liberia, Guinea or Sierra Leone, and they will closely monitor each traveler for fever and other signs of Ebola

8. Minnesota

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Minnesota health officials outlined plans Monday for monitoring travelers from countries battling Ebola, and said the most-severe restrictions will be imposed only on those known to have treated someone with the virus while abroad.

9. Maine

A nurse who treated Ebola patients in West Africa before being briefly and controversially quarantined in New Jersey could be the focus of a new battle over state health policy as she returns to her home state of Maine.

Alternative source

The idea here is to keep everyone informed on a state basis of pertinent information surrounding rules and regulations enforced by their respective state. Also feel free to post information about potential Ebola cases in your community to inform others in your area of risk.

What you need to know...

I guess I will post this in this thread. Seems appropriate. As much as I do not agree with Christie on most things, THIS SITUATION, I DO AGREE WITH HIM ON: t.today.com...
A piece from the article: 'New Jersey Governor Chris Christie says that despite facing criticism for his controversial decision to quarantine American nurse Kaci Hickox, even after she tested negative for Ebola, the state's policy on the virus "will not change." TY Daedal for the thread

Christie was awesome. He's taking heat for saying, yah, nobody likes being in a hospital. He cited his responsibility to the rest of the populace as the basis for his decision to hold her in quarantine.

What is up with people that may have been exposed to insist on walking among us?

Thanks for this. You may want to add Maine now too, where whiny nurse is now disagreeing with that governor.

However, one of Hickox's lawyers, Steve Hyman, said he expected her to remain in seclusion for only the "next day or so" while he works with Maine health officials. He said he believes the state should follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines that require only monitoring, not quarantine, for health care workers who show no symptoms after treating Ebola patients. "She's a very good person who did very good work and deserves to be honored, not detained, for it," he said.

LePage defended the quarantine in a news release Monday, saying that state officials must be "vigilant in our duty to protect the health and safety of all Mainers." Adrienne Bennett, a spokeswoman for the governor, told the Portland Press Herald that authorities would take "appropriate action" if Hickox does not comply with the quarantine, though she did not specify what that action might be. Eye witness to hell,

don't worry.

it's the things you can't see that are most lethal. One twist of an infected door knob or an accidental brush past a stranger can be your death sentence.

Well l guess we can add Pennsylvania to the list. It's being reported there are 105 people being monitored for symptoms, all of which have recently came back from Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia.

Source

Pennsylvania health authorities were monitoring 105 people Monday for Ebola symptoms, although they would not disclose how many were under travel restrictions or quarantine on arriving from outbreak-ravaged West Africa.

I'm sure this number will continue to grow considering there are 150 per day traveling to the US daily from stricken countries. That number can add up quickly.

Where the heck will they put all these people if need be.

It's also being reported that there are currently 8 individuals in quarantine in Connecticut. I'll try to add more numbers from other states when l have time.

So far the number is 113 people being monitored or in quarantine in Pennsylvania and Connecticut as of today.

As of last week, the department has issued four quarantine orders in the state involving nine people. One order involving one person has been rescinded based on a review of additional information related to travel activities. Currently, there are eight people in quarantine in Connecticut.

Ohio not ruling out strict Ebola quarantines

Ohio's Ebola action plan is fluid, and if neccessary requiring mandatory quarantine is not something that can be ruled out.

However, Ohio's current policy falls in line with CDC recommendations but, varies on methods of how a person may have been susceptible to the virus.

Source

For those without direct contact but within a 3-foot radius of the Ebola patient (such as adjacent passengers in an airplane or car) for a prolonged period of time, twice-daily temperature-taking and symptom check (one observed by a public-health official) for 21 days after the last contact.

Michigan monitors 10 for Ebola virus

These individuals are deemed low-risk, meaning they had no contact with the virus but had traveled to one of the affected countries in W. Africa.

www.knoxnews.com...

The Knox County Health Department is monitoring a resident who recently traveled to one of the three West African countries that currently have Ebola outbreaks.

Right now, the person is showing no symptoms and is not confined to home and can come and go at will, Buchanan said, though the Health Department did request the person not use public transportation and offered to provide alternative transportation if necessary, just as the county does with tuberculosis patients.

~~ I know its just a monitoring case, but I wanted to add this to our ever growing list of information.
