Well, since i'm not American and don't celebrate Halloween, i don't have any pumpkins to carve. Here's a quick mock up though.

Oh come now. Get creative with some gourd type vegetable that grows in your country and give us the real deal.

Hollow out a potato if you must. Surely you have potatoes where you live...

Don't you know? I'm an Aussie.

I live in the outback and ride kangaroos. Nothing grows around these parts!

He's lying! We've got heaps of pumpkins in this country, they grow best in the outback.

How about decorating one of Flo's pumpkin scones?

Yes, it appears I am the only Official entry.

It is a bittersweet victory, however I accept it proudly, along with your love.....and admiration.

you, my friend, have yet to make an official entry...you need to take a pic of one of those pumpkins, or all three, with a piece of paper that has your screen name on it in the picture! You will also need to say "official entry" in your post.

THEN we can discuss our love and admiration for you!

Until then... Tinkerhaus....

Many others need to enter this thread and share in our joy of being elbows deep in a slimy, tepid, fantastically stringy foreign body and the resulting reminders of what terrible artists we are.

Do you people not live life!? PUMPKIN CARVING!!!

To quote the great Calvin, "It's lobotomy time, Jack!"

At least 29 people have viewed this thread - do none of you have a knife and a gourd? A pulse?

Is my taunting even making you want to enter a little?

Challenge: Use power tools to create your masterpiece. Abstract Expressionism is encouraged.

May the Pumpkin Gods be with you.

Im carving another one tonight Tinker,
And while I have no power tools, I have a bag of white powder, a rolled up dollar bill, and a switch blade.

Await my entry in quiet fear.

Edit : spiderman was killed by an autistic kid in the neighborhood, no joke, I must be allowed time for mourning.

"official entry"

First time carving in this style, kept it simple, almost cartoon-ish. It has a knife mark through one eye, near smile and a raised brow. Figured to share as an official. I may may make more however. I used freehand carving and various knife sizes. Power tools now that would be fun, maybe next year I'll have some more useful.

dreamingawake, very cool!

I've never had the gusto to skin the whole dang pumpkin - that must have taken some work!

You might want to apply a spray-on laquer to preserve it, all that bare pumpkin flesh will go fast without it.

Glad to see I finally have some competition!

Official Entry #1

I'm afraid it has no characteristics of abstract expressionism, however it is a sincere greeting.

We had fun with the Dewalt!
Not exactly what I had in mind. A wise one told me once "the ATS logo is used ad nauseum" and this wasn't what I wanted but, I improvised.

Off to carve #2...

Oh ya it was a challenge, espcially the texture I tried to pull off(lol) there's probably better knives out there for it. Refrigerating it so far is alright. Good idea for the lacquer.

Next one I may make won't be free hand, plus it's a matter of figuring out how to translate it from paper to have it "glow" correctly when it up.

Nice job on that. I hope more share!

It IS really difficult to get the depth correct without going all the way through and screwing the whole thing up.
I have a new appreciation for the professional/talented pumpkin carvers LOL...

It looks so easy on youtube and such but, geez!

The pumpkins here in TN must be about 4 inches THICK!

I will probably post the kiddos tomorrow...as a group...they said tonight, "I wanna enter a contest too!". haha!

" OFFICIAL RESIGNATION "

I regret to inform ats that I must officialy withdraw from this competition.

To my supporters, thank you for believing in me, writing letters, flying to my carving sessions, and supporting me financialy.

Unfortunately I sustained a knee injury while working on my latest project and wont be expected to return to full carving until next year.

I wish to dispell the rumours that I have taken any bribes to drop out of this years competition. I find these accusations insulting to me and this entire sport.

I would also like to personaly thank tinker hause for their support during this troubling time.

I will be spending the rest of this season in las vegas........ to heal. Please forward any mail, or donations to my high rollers suite in Cesears Palace. ........ Thank You.
