Understanding things chemically can really put some things in perspective.

One weird perspective is that we have gold in out bodies, an unknown fact to many, but who knew we can carry so many atoms of gold in our bodies.

Link to elemental Composition of human body en.wikipedia.org...

Apparently there are 100 gold atoms for every billion atoms in our body

If you'd like to know how many atoms of gold are in your body follow this guide

First insert your weight in this calculator to estimate how many grams of gold are in your body
Link to Calculator -->www.webelements.com...

Once the grams of gold in your body are known, you can divide the value by the atomic mass unit of a single gold atom 196.97amu.

link to picture of gold on periodic table sp.yimg.com...

This value from the result of dividing your weight of gold by amu is the amount of Mols of gold that are in your body.
Mols are synonymous with the value 6.022 x 10 to the 23rd power..
a value known as Avogadro's constant...aka the numbers of carbon atoms in 12.01 grams of carbon, ...an interesting read...

Link to Avogadro info en.wikipedia.org...

So if you weigh 150 lbs, you would have about 0.0068 grams aka 6.8 miligrams gold in your body. Thus you would have .00003457 mols gold aka .00003457 x 6.022 x 10 to the 23rd power.

which equals 2.078 x 10 to the 19th power aka 20 Quintillion gold atoms

Know the names of large numbers here. www.unc.edu...

One you can do on your own If you know how much your pure aluminum beer can weighs then you can also figure how many atoms of aluminum are in that can.

So humans actually have an exact value? I knew we were here for something.

Nice.

Peace

Yup. 'bout $160. Depending on current market values.

But more so as parts instead of chemicals.

Whats the point of saying there are 100 gold atoms for every billion atoms in our body when its the same as 1 for every ten million?

The worrying part is that for every 150,000 people, that's 1 kilogram of gold ...

If only we could figure out how to copy ourselves into planet size we could then climb on and start mining.

Thats neat...i should start panning for gold every time I find a corpse....also I swallowed a penny as a kid...not sure it ever came out...so I may be worth slightly more than people my weight...

makes you wonder about who gets all the gold at the funeral homes and mourges. seriously where is it? Heavy metals would collect at the bottom of the burn pile and not get caught in the ashes.

But, I don't even like gold.

Is this where all the gold in Ft. Knox went?

How is that compared to gold atoms at large in the environment? I mean, is it 10x, 20x or what?

Har har har.

If you go to an ER and complain of back pain you'll get an x-ray of your torso/back area to check for constipation - and if the penny is there you'll see it.

Just something to keep in mind if you have a chance to get x-rayed for something else. Not necessary to know if the penny is there, but interesting all the same.

I assume the amount of gold in one's body may vary depending on variables such as the food they eat, their physical location, etc?

Awesome post BTW, S&F from me.

And dental work. I think I have 100x the body amount (at least a couple of grams) from a crown.
