The Debt (poem)

The Debt



Time to settle up,
I hate to owe a debt.
I thought I was finished here,
But I guess I'm not done yet.

To be fair, I didn't know,
You expected this of me.
I thought it was a favor,
Not that you would charge a fee.

Tell me what I owe to you,
And I will pay it in full gladly,
Wish you nothing but the best,
And hope that you stay happy.

Then I will be free of this,
Can be the person I truly am.
I will not have to hide myself,
Won't have to try and blend in.

Let's square up here and now,
Let's not waste another day.
I just want to be done with this,
and then be on my way.
