One day after Rumsfeld addressed US soldiers in Kuwait, US senator Chris Dodd sent a letter to Rumsfeld demanding answers on military preparedness. Referring to his response to a US soldiers statement that "troops in Iraq are reduced to scavenging for materials with which to protect their vehicles." He described Rumsfeld as "cavalier". The letter also stated in no uncertain terms that Rumsfelds response was "unacceptable".
Dodd went further stating "``Our troops go to war with the Army that our nation's leaders provide. Our military should spare no expense to ensure the safety of our troops, particularly as they confront a hostile insurgency and roadside bombs throughout Iraq.''

Finally, someone in the government is bringing to light not only the inadequate conditions that our troops overseas are living in, but also the holier than thou attitude that this government to date has shown towards them.

Dodd, who last year wrote an amendment to a bill to require that the Defense Department reimburse soldiers and their families for buying their own equipment truly does have the troops best interests at heart.
