I was wondering when you convert a black and white photo to color how accurate is it?

There's software that uses algorithms that can get you into the ballpark and then it usually takes someone pretty talented to sit there and fiddle with it all until it looks right. Soooo its an artist representation of what SHOULD be accurate but its not 100%

A lot of gradients and shading gets lost mainly and you end up with slightly more monotone colors a lot of the time but I've seen some that were just beautiful. A few in those videos were pretty amazing too. The photo of B-company from the civil war demonstrates the monoton green on all the foliage. This would of onviously not looked like that in person but to be able to accurately shade ever blade of grass and leaf would take lifetimes.

Great find Orion, very interesting find and to yourself and anybody on this thread here is a Fantastic Site with
thousands and thousands of old Photos..........
www.shorpy.com...

It will take you months and months to get through them all.

S&F for posting a thread about what really interests me.

Regards, Iwinder

ETA On the above site go to the first page to start if you like things in order.

The last page I guess is correct, it has a picture of Shorpy on it with job description....so go to the last page to start from the
beginning.
Last edit, I promise :-)
