Genes which fight against HIV have been pinpointed by scientists and what they have discovered opens up a vast range of amazing possibilities. Experts believe there is the equivalent of an evolutionary arms race occurring between HIV and the body's immune system. As the HIV mutates rapidly, the human immune system is forced to continuely change its tactics to defend against this insidious disease. Scientists state that "...this, in turn, is driving the rapid evolution of the immune system, as genetic variations which are less effective at combating infection are being wiped out, while more effective forms have a greater chance of survival."

Experts believe there is the equivalent of an evolutionary arms race occurring between HIV and the body's immune system.
The virus is able to mutate rapidly to side step the immune system defences.
This, in turn, is driving the rapid evolution of the immune system, as genetic variations which are less effective at combating infection are being wiped out, while more effective forms have a greater chance of survival.
Rapid acceleration
Normally, the process of mutual adaptation would take thousands of years.
But the latest research suggests that in the case of HIV it is happening much more rapidly.
Not only are human immune responses to HIV causing rapid changes in the virus, HIV is also causing rapid evolutionary changes in humans.

With all the theories about HIV - this information comes as quite a surprise whilst also giving some hope to the millions suffering from this devastating virus.
What is extraordinary is the thought that this virus can push the evolution of our immune systems forward. As a species, this kind of evolutionary effect could put quite a spin on conspiracy theories related to the effects of HIV - IF HIV was created and inserted into our population for a reason, perhaps we are only just begining to see the true purpose behind it......
