What is the death rate for white ebola victims being treated in the us?

What is the death rate for black ebola victims being treated in the us?

Um, excuse my ignorance but...what does skin color have to do with anything related to Ebola?

No need to play the race card, is there?

Right now it looks like a 100% death rate for blacks and a 100% non-lethel rate for non blacks.

Oh come one...that's ridiculous

The man from Liberia first of all lied about where he was coming from when boarding the plane

Finally when he got real sick and went to the hospital, that is when he came clean about him just coming from Liberia

From all accounts I read on him, the hospital did what they knew to do

So you think they let he die because he was black?

Pardon me, but now THAT is ignorant

Not to mention nearly 70 people put their health at risk trying to save him

I do hope it is rediculous and that certain factors have sked the numbers but when you view the death rate of people treated in the us the numbers are clear.

Demonizing someone following the rules givin to her is not the answer either.

Telling the truth isn't 'demonizing'. It's just telling the truth.

She's in bad shape and that easily could be because she delayed her own treatment by a week so she could run around shopping for dresses. And she very well could be a modern version of Typhoid Mary ... Ebola Nurse Amber. Truth is truth. This woman, if she survives, should be prosecuted. She can't claim not to know what a fever or aches or chills means ... she's an educated nurse.

ON TOPIC - Schools in Ohio and Texas closed. Frontier Airlines has lost millions on lost airfares and a plane being out of service, not to mention all the work being done to the plane. Frontier AND the schools have people out of work because of this but still getting paid. This woman and her dress shopping trip have caused a lot of financial loss ... millions of dollars worth of financial loss. Frontier should sue.

No, she is in bad shape now, because she chose to go shopping infect some people in her way, shop for dresses, infect more people in her way, then when she could no keep up anymore, infected more people, came back to get treated, ebola has to be treated right away no wait days after the first symptoms shows, she took the same path as Mr. patient zero, once you have that diarrhea and start vomiting you are out of luck

If the proper guidelines were in place then she would never have had the option to board the plane. Others will follow in simular footsteps of her if this continues and we need the right actions to combat this. Putting the blame on the person and not the policies only sets us up for a repeat of the event. Perhaps all the healthcare workers that care for ebola victims will need to be monitered more closely or perhaps it would have never happened if the people she works for would have had her in full protection not having her shoes exposed.

Yes in this thread you have been demonizing her and not focusing on how her bosses failed. Linens piled 6 foot high in his room. Sending her into a room with a gown on to treat him and then giving her permission to fly is what the problem is. We have thousands of nurses like her that do what they are told and we must hold the guidelines and the bosses responsible for what they do.

I'm tired. And this thread is starting to agitate me..lol.
So I will blow a little funny steam....

So her dress is technically a couple of million dollars more than the brides?
Did I get that right?

Deadeyedick.. I also gave you stars.
Your words are on topic and sensible..

Looks like some schools in tx are shut down too. I say good on them for acknowledging that a certain amount of danger exist until all the places of treatment are on the same page. Clearly some balls were dropped in dallas and it is just a matter of time before it is under control.

No. Telling the truth isn't demonizing. I have stated that the CDC screwed up. But the fact is she is responsible for her own decisions ... her decision to travel while knowing she's sick after being exposed to ebola. That's on her. It was a stupid thing for her to do.

It's exactly like the situation I gave ... asking a cop if it's okay to drive drunk.

She is not responsible for her boss's decisions if she is told something they had the final say. Clearly if she knew the answer already then she would not have even called in to ask. Why did she call? Because she follows the rules that just let us down.

Drunk driving is against the law no matter who tells you otherwise. However flying on a plane with ebola is not against the law right now.

I think it's a really bad idea to get into race baiting with this or any other issue.
Let's not go down that road, please.

And while we're at it, let's not get into politicizing either.
I'm so tired of hearing about Obama this, Obama that.
We ATSers should know by now that the USA is not run by the sitting president, whoever acts that role.
Rant over...

It is only race baiting because of how you view it. Fact is that mostly black people are losing their life to ebola and of all those treated in the us only a black man has died from it. It may be too early to know for sure but so far it points to blacks are at more risk of being killed in the us from ebola. That does not make it about the way we view race but how the virus views race.

Maybe this will help you to understand more clearly as to why the 'black' man, as you so eloquently pointed out, died

The Emory hospital in Atlanta is one of the few that is actually set up to handle patients with Ebola, among other diseases

Despite what the CDC says, most average hospitals ARE NOT educated/equipped enough to handle taking care of patients that have Ebola, as is what happened with the case of Mr.Duncan in Texas

Daniel Varga, the chief clinical officer for Texas Health Services, apologized over mistakes he says were made in the care of Thomas Duncan, a Liberian national who became the first person in the United States to die from the virus. Duncan was sent home despite saying he had a fever and that he had visited West Africa.

"Unfortunately, in our initial treatment of Mr. Duncan, despite our best intentions and a highly skilled medical team, we made mistakes," Varga testified to Congress. "We did not correctly diagnose his symptoms as those of Ebola. We are deeply sorry."

www.cnn.com...

The man died not because he was black but because the medical staff there was not properly educated on Ebola
They admitted to not diagnosing his symptoms at first, which cost him his life

Basically, it was lack of not knowing what to do
The hospital/staff was not ready for such a case as is what Emory specializes in

Human error cost his life, not his skin color
Not to mention Mr.Duncan might have prevented this by telling the truth to begin with and he probably would have been sent to specialists that would know what to do to help him

Also, as a side note, the husband to the nurse asst. in Spain that was infected was furious because his wife only got 30 minutes training

In a scathing letter released Monday, he said his wife had received only 30 minutes of training in putting on protective gear and called for the resignation of Madrid's regional health minister.

www.cnn.com...

Clearly there is so much that hospitals and the staff need to learn all across the globe, not just in the US
Errors were made in the Texas case - yes- but it did not have anything to do with the man's race

***UPDATE***

Oh heck, here we go....

Airline contacting passengers on same flights as nurse infected with Ebola

CNN) -- A nurse infected with Ebola may have had symptoms sooner, authorities say, and an airline is notifying passengers who were on the same flights she took from Dallas to Cleveland.

In addition to Amber Vinson's return trip, Frontier Airlines is also reaching out to others who were in five subsequent flights that used the same plane she flew in from Cleveland.

Vinson was hospitalized Tuesday, a day after she took Frontier Airlines flight 1142 from Cleveland to Dallas.

Frontier Airlines says it is notifying up to 800 passengers linked to Vinson's flights
They include those aboard her Dallas-to-Cleveland flight on October 10, a return flight four days later and five subsequent trips by the plane used in the latter flight

The article states that there is different information regarding her symptoms, but the people that she came in contact with are in quarantine now:

In addition, "12 confirmed contacts of Amber Vinson in Ohio ... are currently under quarantine," according to Summit County's assistant health commissioner Donna Skoda. They include at least two people who worked at a bridal store where the 29-year-old nurse went for her wedding planning.

Damn, my domino scenario is playing out, not good

I like this lil' tidbit:
"Ebola is contagious when someone is symptomatic"

No sh#t Sherlock!!

God I hope she didn't pass that on to anyone else

Careless and irresponsible on her part, being a nurse and she just finished dealing with the man that died from it, she should have known better
And the CDC, that just now admits that she may have had symptoms days earlier than previously thought

Oh yeah, we are so not prepared for this at all!!

Hey, thought you would like this newest revelation regarding the CDC:

Lupica: CDC finally reveals truth by saying it knows little about how Ebola is spread

'CDC Director Tom Frieden kept assuring the public that his agency knew everything there was to know about the transmission of Ebola. He turned out to be wrong.'

I get all that and i will shut my mouth when the two nurses are healed. I am sure you are aware of the implications if a black nurse looses her life and the non black nurse lives. So far it is not looking good at all. YOU PEOPLE are so shell shocked from the thought of being labeled a racist to even phathom the outcomes without someone like me bringing them to your attention. Honestly i am praying for them and all the contacts.

Actually he would have died anyway, because by the time he got ebola in Liberia to the time that he got a visa to the US and arrived, then the time he spend in Dallas before his first visit to the hospital it was way too late.

Vomiting and diarrhea means the organs already are too affected.

If he as come clean from the beginning and had told everybody that he had ebola, things would maybe, may have been different, but he hid the fact and just told that he was in Liberia, he had a voice he could had screamed, Hey people I got ebola, that would have made a big difference, but he probably was scare to tell the nature of his illness.

I am sorry he died but I am angry that he didn't come clean from the beginning, he now in dead may be responsible for the spread of ebola in the US and those that could die because of him.

Remember that is a reason that the government in Liberia wanted to bring charges on him, because he knew he was sick before living his country and lie about it.

We have been told you many times the link between the only plasma available with antibodies from a donor and the importance of blood type.

Duncan could not take the blood of the donor.

The others could because they were blood match.

I will be one of those that could not take the donor blood either.

I am interested in knowiing more about the influences that has led some to make very poor decisions when they are faced with the virus. My stance that the protection guidelines from the top will keep this spread down if we get it right but one can not ignore the bad decisions being made up and down the chain. I firmly believe that just chalking it up to stupidity does not explain why some are spreading the virus even when they logically do not want people hurt. I believe all the infected if givin the simple choice of wanting the virus to spread or not they would choose not but when other factors are in play they make decisions that infect and put many at risk. I believe that something besides stupidity is behind these decisions. the church lady would say could it be...

I do not doubt all the logical reasons we are in this series of unfortunate events but like i said if you take a broader look the numbers do tell a story in themselves. Call it luck or written in the stars but it is what it is. It is something to watch all this unfold. The fact that each infected person is infecting 2 other people is some scary evil trinity.

WTH is with 'YOU PEOPLE'????
And why are YOU so focused on skin color?

Man, you are really going off the deep end on this one
Have at it.....

Oh and by the way, if you will listen, the hospital admitted they dropped the ball on their first case of Ebola
They didn't diagnose it correct at first, they admitted to that
They also admitted that they were not prepared to deal with Ebola, since they are not like Emory Hosp. in Atlanta that does specialize in disease

And, once again, your man failed to tell a soul about where he had been, being Liberia, so he was at fault too!!

The hospital in Texas knows they messed up but it had to do with their inexperience, not his skin color
