After reading this week that a barrel of oil has dropped to $ 87 and posters in the states saying they were paying $ 2.99 [ us ] to fill up it got me thinking when i saw the prices at my local station [ uk ] the price is still £ 1.37 [ $ 2.18 ] a LITER and Diesel is £ 1.42 that is [$ 2..26 ]
us .

I do live in quite a rural area and have used the local prices but i thought back to June of 2008 when a barrel was $ 139.83 , a liter of fuel was £ 1.18 for petrol $ 1.88 us [ gas] diesel was £1.31 $ 2.08 a liter

www.theaa.com...
www.petrolprices.com...
www.bbc.co.uk...

Quite some year 2008 for the price of a barrel it went from $48.56 / barrel in December as stated it was Oil $139.83 / barrel in June
yet in 2014 with oil at $ 87 a barrel it is selling 19 English pennies a liter more than in 2008 ? that is $ 52 a barrel LESS

Yet we are told that refineries are having a hard time they must have been having a party in 2008

www.blacklistednews.com...'s_"Oil-Weapon"_Hits_Europe/38555/0/38/38/Y/M.htm

what Saudi Arabia loses in 'price' it will make up in 'volume' as The Kingdon is taking the unusual step of asking buyers to commit to maximum shipments if they want to get its crude. Simply put, "they are threatening [European] buyers" to discontinue sales if they don't agree with the full fixed deliveries.

What are the roads like in your area ? falling apart i bet yet asphalt is from oil to fix our roads does anything go down in price like

Ink
Crayons
Dishwashing liquids
Deodorant
Eyeglasses
CDs and DVDs
Tires
Ammonia
Heart valves and other medical equipment
Computers
Tires

Try buying a tin of varnish in the U.K 1 gallon 1.02 [us] $ 130 i just did for the church i am working on and i nearly fell over when i got the bill for the materials at the hardware store and muggins coughed it up

This is why i made this thread about a global fund from oil

So the pound is stronger than the dollar in value, but you're paying about 2/3 of the price for about 1/4 of the fuel we are...

In case some US posters are confused about conversion, a liter is similar to a quart, with 1 gallon being slightly less than 4 liters. (1 Liter ~ 1.05 Quarts)

So, you're essentially paying over $9 USD per US Gallon of fuel.

Holy crap!

While bad it is not as bad as it sounds as unless a commercial user like Douglas or live in very rural area the distances we need to travel are generally a lot less.
With a economical car you can get between any 2 uk city's on a couple if tanks.
Still a rip off!

it should be illegal. To keep prices unfairly high and extort so much money from us.

But I didnt know about this until reading this thread so I expect most people don't know. Therefore they can get away with it

It proves how the government are ripping the people of we pay a road tax on each vehicle depending on the cc of the engine over 1549 cc in a private /light goods vehicle is £ 230 pa but if you drive a suv or a van expect to pay a lot more
a 30 mile journey in a large v8 will cost $ 25
www.gov.uk...

With oil/gas at very low figures and the government cutting services by as much as 55 % / library ,waste collections social care etc yet the price is 40 + cents more per liter than when a barrel of oil was $ 50 more .

Years ago at the pumps it was priced in U.K gallons and if it went up by more than 10 pence 16 cents people were very unhappy , they then switched to liters 4.5 uk to 1 gallon and can put the price up by 5 or 6 pence sometimes more , and nobody seems to notice that it is 30 pence raise are they stupid

Gasoline prices, 01-Dec-2014: The average price of gasoline around the world is 1.21 US Dollar per liter. However, there is substantial difference in these prices among countries. As a general rule, richer countries have higher prices while poorer countries and the countries that produce and export oil have significantly lower prices. One notable exception is the U.S. which is an economically advanced country but has low gas prices. The differences in prices across countries are due to the various taxes and subsidies for gasoline.

Norway* 2.14 $ a litre

Talking to yourself is apparently the first sign of madness dougal(after being an ATS member)

I can't imagine this price drop will last, I bet it is £1.65 a litre in less than a year.

Nothing wrong with talking to yourself it is when you get an answer

that you have to worry about

It is when you start disagreeing and refuse to talk you have the real problems.

I fell out with myself once and refused to talk to myself for weeks.

I am still adamant that I was right.

Not trying to rub it in, but gas where I live just dropped another 20 cents per gallon to $2.27. For the last several weeks, it's dropped steadily by about 10 cents, every few days. I don't expect it to last, so I'm taking advantage of it by filling 5 gal cans. I have a generator [ snow/ice storms have knocked power out for days ] so I save it for that, plus use Sta-Bil, so I can still use it when Summer comes around. On my way to get another 10 gal now.
