Indeed I wasnt aware. Knowing that this happened before I was born im sure there are many who are aware. But it caught me as a surpise as I never took the time to think of this quote. Sorry for all who this is old information as it was new to me being a "young en" and all.

It comes across more clearly in French:

"C'est un petit pas pour un homme, mais un bond de géant pour l'humanité."

The link documents Neil Armstrong saying that he actually said, "That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind."

Yes, I remember reading this years ago in an Arthur C. Clarke novel, Imperial Earth. Clarke wrote about a character listening to the recording, trying to hear the missing "a." This quote appears in the closing pages: "The 'exasperated' remark in Chapter 21 was made to me at a NASA conference by Professor Neil Armstrong in July 1970. I hope it is the last word on some famous first words."
edit on 13-12-2014 by CoriSCapnSkip because: Include exact quote.
