Could a huge amount of electricity put into water be practical enough to seperate the O and H molecule for a sufficent fuel source.

I did an experiment with this when I was in grade school. We introduced a catalyst into regular tap water. In this instance the catalyst was salt. We used a lantern battery, and after quite a long while, we had separated out enough hydrogen to fill a small test tube. I assume that it's possible to do, however I have to believe that it is probably not cost effective at all on a grand scale. Just my opinion.

I know that it is certainly possible, however I don't know how feasible it is. Perhaps someone with a better scientific background than mine could provide some info. It is an interesting question.

I've seen many experiments using graphite sticks and a low voltage battery to produce a small amount of hydrogen from a bottle of water. Possible in a larger scale, I'm sure it is!
