The Jet stream is not failing - they are consequence of the Coriolis effect combined with the Hadley convection cells all over our planet. Hadley convection cells will continue to exist so long as there is more sunlight at the Equator than at the North and South poles. The Coriolis effect will continue to work so long as our planet continues to rotate every 24 hours.

Honestly, I'd be more worried about how this could effect the Fukushima Nuclear plant.

Sorry if I don't understand all the science. This # is happening. Tons of reports of visible signs from arctic communities and pacific islands. My bad if you wanna ignore it because it can't be 110% proven. Maine's already seeing the signs in their fisheries. Last I checked animals are better at sensing disasters and impending changes than scientists. Maybe listen to the animals?

Looks like Typhoon Vongfong has weakened.

The storm's sustained winds dropped Saturday to about 75 knots (86 miles per hour) from earlier sustained highs on Friday of 155 knots (178 mph), according to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center. That makes it equivalent to a Category 1 hurricane.

Warmer sea temperatures can be more attributed to undersea seismic events than global warming.

Yes I felt bad for the Japanese when I first heard of this. Like they have been through enough already.
Gives me hope that there must be a godlike force protecting all of us after all.
On another note out of all the countries i would like to see most is Japan. I am and always have and will be too poor to ever see it. Hopefully i do get to see it someday. I guess I can only hope.

Our small town has a sister city in Japan, and the locals honor them with beautiful indigenous trees from the province that bloom spectacularly in the spring months. Every time they come into bloom I can't help but smile and think that somewhere over there, the same trees are putting forth blossoms.

I hear you though, Japan and Her People are absolutely and amazingly beautiful....understandable why so many wish to visit...and probably why that typhoon was calmed. Wouldn't surprise me if their prayers got through just in the nick of time!

I'm stuck Stateside, but will send some extra good karma your way and who knows? Maybe you'll get to take that trip one day after all!

I fully believe in climate change, it has been ongoing 'since records began', it is a natural process.

Man, Japan has been taking a beating.

Still don't think radiation affects weather?

I do! radiation from the sun affects our weather everyday. Still not buying the global warming bit though, sorry.

Sorry? Sorry for what? You not "buying" it affects nothing

This storm is miles away from Fukushima and is almost down to a Tropical Storm already....this will be mainly a rain event and not much else... although Fukushima certainly doesn't need anymore rain.

PS: Hi VanneV

Ah, another denier. So the people of the arctic, Greenland, anyone that lives near glaciers, as I do, should just ignore the rapidly retreating glaciers as what????? Old photos taken in South America, the Alps, Alaska, showing glaciers far, far larger than current size..... just photoshopped back in the late 1800's and early 1900s? No, there's nothing going on with the climate..... if your head is below ground level in the sand like an ostrich. Maybe where you are things are much the same, but that cannot be said in places that feel the change now and for the past number of years. Glacier National Park is losing its glaciers.... did you know that? The sea levels are rising for low lying island nations.... they're all just liars of course. The lack of sea ice for the walruses in the news lately, the lack of sea ice for the arctic tribes means they can't hunt and fish where they used to fish.... just.... not happening, right?

Just because glaciers are melting doesn't mean mankind is to blame exclusively.
Where you around living near a glacier every time one melted over the course of the earths existence?
No? Then how do you know this isn't just a natural cycle the earth goes through?
Perhaps we, mankind, are helping accelerate the cycle, perhaps we aren't.

What is needed is true independent analysis and investigation.
But we wont get that because there are too many powerful groups with interests vested in certain findings.

Like the saying goes, money is the root of all evil.

Even if a bunch of scientists and what have you went and started doing their own research and investigations, paying their own way and with no affiliations or any connections what so ever in any kind of any kind with groups or people with vested interests, whatever they found would be suppressed one way or another.
Why? Because those findings would be different from what we've been told is happening.

We could be to blame more then we know. We might not be to blame in any way.
But we will never know because those who shouldn't have, did sell out.

Is mankind truly that arrogant that we now think we've worked out everything about our planet and we are the masters of it?

"old" photos? A whole 160years ago???? OMG amazing!!!

Can you grasp the concept of 'old' in relation to a 4 BILLION year old planet?

FOUR BILLION. Counting 1 number per second, 8hours a day, every day of your life, you'd have to live to 124years old to reach four billion if you started counting the very SECOND you were born.

Each of those seconds represents a WHOLE YEAR. And an actual year has 31.5 MILLION seconds!

Let that turn over in your head for a few, and then tell us again about how OLD those pictures are.....

160 seconds.
