I wonder what political party dominates Lincoln, Nebraska?

Especially the School Board.

Hmmm.

Maybe it's a heavy Democrat voting pocket.

Didn't have the time to do a quick google search for Nebraska politics?
en.wikipedia.org...

Edit: Many school boards are Democratic leaning however, as are the majority of people involved in public education.

That's not showing anything specific precinct by precinct for the City Of Lincoln, Nebraska.

County and State results mean nothing.

Are the School Board members Democrat or Republican?

Is the Mayor and City Counsil D or R ?

This will tell the story.

I agree, my point (which I needed to edit in as you saw,) is that even in a predominantly Republican state, the school board and others involved in public education tend to be Democratic leaning as opposed to Republican leaning.

Socialism is not the problem here. Sheer stupidity is.

Not only is this measure ridiculous, it does not address the issue in any way what so ever, and may set children on a course which will leave them utterly unprepared to enter puberty.

This is nothing to do with politics, and has everything to do with people who know nothing about psychology and psycho-sexual gender issues, making blanket rules to cover a topic with no one size fits all solution. The attempt itself is moronic, but following it through will be the dumbest activity undertaken on this planet, bar pretty much none. Aside of course from wearing kipper ties, or wrapping yourself, and your tent in tin foil during a hot summers day on a campsite, and expecting not to cook in the heat.

Children, young people, young adults, even just kids is better then Purple Penguin.

I get the non-gender identifying. Don't have a problem with that, but . . .

The world had to contend with Barney the purple dinosaur, so maybe a purple penguin is the next step in purpledom? And just what happens when the little purple penguins want to go to the bathroom? Without some kind of gender identification will both bathrooms be integrated too? I feel for the child who has a difficulty with sexual identity, but is calling everyone a purple penguin really helping to address the issue?

I think they were using that as an example of something a class could come up with to be used as a pronoun for themselves. Or something. F- I don't know.

What if one classroom gets a cooler animal? Stupid Purple Penguins have nothing on the Alabaster Lions. Let the grade school animal race wars begin.

Ever seen the individual stall toilets with all the extra stuff outside?

Sinks, mirrors, etc outside on the wall.

Yeah, I actually did read it. Still stupid.

Not the non-gender concept. I was a school girl in the 50s. I hated gender separation then. I like the concept of neutral gender.

Just not the Purple Penguins. I suppose it's like a team name. That you all belong to the same team.

I don't get why that isn't just standard everywhere. It's not like men gleefully start swinging around their manhood upon entering the bathroom.

If everyone has a stall (and not the crappy ugh sorry stalls with gaps everywhere) I don't see a problem.

Oh I wasn't trying to imply you hadn't read it, sorry.

I feel like if a boy wants to be referred to as she then the teacher should deal with it and use it as a teaching opportunity. Otherwise let kids be kids or just use non gender identifiers like "Hey, shutup you little brats!".

While I would normally agree with you, it is one of the core tenants to a socialist education. The distinction of sex like race is counter conducive to a socialist mindset. We have a state wide program NO ONE VOTED FOR being imposed on the US by the federal government. Its called common core. One of the issues it had off the bat in California was that bathrooms would be offered to what ever sex you said you were as young as 5 years old. Some parents wanted to construct a third type of bathroom for those of a "confused" orientation. OR allow boys who thought of themselves as girls to just use the girls bathrooms and locker /shower rooms.

It is now mandatory in common core trial states for EVERY class and EVERY subject to include a gay friendly question, assignment, or statement to be made. You MUST use at least one example like "Billies two dads have 3 apples and you take one away", and so on.

It is absolutely how "small nudge" socialism is being implemented in the US. Whether a formal tactic of socialism or just a mechanism of its gradual implementation, the effect is all the same.

Its no surprise that the Secretary of education in the US is not an educator but rather just holds a degree in sociology. This sort of guinea pig experimentation with education to the tune of "for your own good whether you like it or not" has to stop.

This is all social programming. Conditioning. Dogma and propaganda wars. Right VS Left is not the issue. You are right. This is a problem for all people and proponents of any political ideology. This is the type of crap NO ONE VOTES FOR, ASKS FOR, OR EVEN HINTS AT, that the government and special interest groups FORCE on people "for their own good". Its an ideology war between ass hats that has now creeped into our education systems and wrecked havoc. There is only LESS EDUCATION if you also have to make room for shaping ideologies and mindsets for future voters.

Teachers have to teach towards mandatory standards tests, exclusively, so they dont get outright FIRED for trying to teach mostly literature, math and history in the school year. They arent allowed to go against the "the group is right mentality.", "The government is family but better", and "even if you are right, you are wrong if the group thinks you are wrong".....NOW, this is happening.

All this experimentation is done by people who wish to prepare a couple future generations of Americans to accept and promote extremist leftist ideologies... so government can then be shifted and freed up for more control and practice of government reflective of the peoples expectations.

Remember, "The philosophy of the school room in one generation will be the philosophy of government in the next"

Funny you should ask... It's now a big no no to call things stupid. It may be insulting to people with learning disabilities. I wish I was joking. Obviously calling someone retard is questionable, but stupid?

Because "child" stereotypes and defines them as very young, possibly smallish people and "young adult" pigeonholes them as someone that is new to or near adulthood. How will they ever overcome those labels? Have you no compassion whatsoever?

No, I didn't take it that way. And we all know the OP isn't always read.

I'm actually all for the gender neutral approach.

Like I previously said, I was a schoolgirl in the 50s. "When Boys were Boys and Girls were Girls". I hated it.

I had 2 brothers and lived in an all boy neighborhood. But . . . when I went to school I had to wear dresses and couldn't play sports, etc etc.

I just think "Purple Penguin" is dumb.

tadaman, care to direct me to a source requiring that "It is now mandatory in common core trial states for EVERY class and EVERY subject to include a gay friendly question, assignment, or statement to be made."

For the record, I taught in a public school for the previous 3 years in the States. Not once, as we were gearing up for the full transition into the terribleness that is Common Core was this ever mentioned.

Funny.

I think they are saying something like each class should pick a "team" name. And they're all on the same team.

They just really needed to use a better example.
