They may have predicted the rise of the cellular telephone. However, they couldn't forsee the demise of the vest ?

This wasn't actually that much of a leap from existing tech of the day. The military had started using wireless radios in World War One, it would have been the high tech gizmo that futurists of the time would have been extrapolating how this might have been used in the future. There was every reason to think ppl might have been thinking of this tech.
