Well.... organized religions know a lot about that subject don't they! The Crusades...burning people at the stake, gays.....

EDITED to add that I don't actually agree with all this BS...most people look at Christmas as time for family to get together, good food and the exchange of gifts anyway..

I really dont care if Capitolistic Chrismass is banned, as it doesnt represent what Christmass was originally about anyway. Christmass WAS about the birth of Christ. Now its about the newest My Little Pony castle, or the next GI Joe figure. Its nice to get presents, but people everywhere forget why we actually celibrate this holiday.

Personally, I have no problem with celebrating Santa's Birthday.

I too can see why religious references might not be allowed in schools but the entire country celebrates this holiday and there are other festive songs and themes which can be done in schools without directly being religious.

You want my two cents on the whole PC crowd? Okay, here goes.

2 words.

Attention whores.

...and the more they get, the more they'll want. You think giving an inch and appeasing them will make the shut the hell up? I don't think so.

These are people who cannot leave others to mind their own freaking business and think somehow, they know whats best for everybody.

Its people who crave attention (thus the big following in the entertainment field). I don't know, maybe they didn't get enough attention as a child or something and I suspect thats likely at the root of the problem..and with the whole Village to Raise the child ideology of the 90s, I suspect we'll see their numbers grow.

They know no one is trying to force anyone to worship or celebrate a religious holiday if they don't want to do it. Its all about seizing control and "having a cause" and the attention they get when the press snaps their picture on the protest line.

These people are the spoilers in life with their high and mighty cause that must be force fed to everyone because of some neo-political devine vision they think they have when most lack the sense as well as the formal education to get out of the rain. In reality, most could give a damn less about our rights or saving the whales or the planet. They want that picture on the evening news..just give them something..something they can use...uh okay so I'm starting to channel Don Hinley. Its time to take my BP meds and leave this one for a while!

I certainly hope this thread will be considered close soon. I can't for the life of me see why anyone will want to take away any joy that does not come to many. Their are those that don't have so much as heat/food/comforts that some have, they are left with worst feeling of all. A empty feeling... We should focus on the gift that we have to change that.. It may be called, Religion,Goodwill, Compassion. Call it what you want. It will take less energy to see it done, then to endure the pain if we don't.
Our Priorities are A$$ Backwards in allot of respects. I could be incorrect, but, I don't think so.

Astrocreep, what a heap of generalised crapola.

There are attention seekers in all areas of life, I for one would tend to categorise Evangelical Preachers into your generalised attention seekers.

I agree that the PC brigade take things a little too far sometimes, but the main reason they raise these points is not to gain attention for themselves but raise awareness for those minorities whose voices are ignored and seldom heard by the general populous.

You can practice whatever faith you wish to and they (PC Brigade) are entitled to represent those that the general populous consider an annoyance or simply choose to ignore.

Bologna! Most of these people could give a rats behind about the awareness of anything except their egos. You know, I know it and unless they have spent a bundle on some psychologist to convince themselves otherwise, they know it too.

You want the proof?

Okay. Lets look at what these so called moral fighters fight for..or rather against. It seems they never fight tfor a persons right to do something but rather against another's because it somehow makes someone else feel bad...even if they don't even have to be involved.

What does removing a holiday like Christmas do for the minoroties and unfortunate? Well for starters , it removes a great many charities who use the general good will the holiday brings about to raise money to help them. That ought to help out a lot, don't cha think?

No, once we cut to the root of who really benefits from these holier than thou crusades against rights and personal opinion, I think we find the only people who gain anything positive are the ones in for the attention fix.

It is a generalized statement I admit but calling crapola scarcely argues it away. If these people will get a life and begin contributing to society instead of hindering it, I'll stop calling them attention whores. Until then, I think I'll see who's chained to a lamp post on CNN this hour.

Back to its roots you say? Oh its Christian roots

" The people have taken the USA back "
Oh thats classic

Man the founding fathers would roll over in their graves if they saw some of the stuff going on in this country today. We are farther from our roots then we have ever been in history.

For one you say "It seems" which appears to me to be a personal interpretation rather any kind of evidence, and also another generalisation.

Are there any causes that you believe the PC Brigade are justified in protesting about?

Personally I enjoy Xmas, at least the holiday part of it, which is one of the benefits of living within a Christian based society. I don't believe anyone has the right to stop someone celebrating those special days which occur within their religious calender, so cancelling Xmas wouldn't figure high on my list of things to ban.

The thing I do hate about Xmas is the commercialisation and greed which transpires around this time every year.

IMO, very few Christians understand their own faith let alone the reasons Xmas is celebrated.

Flame away...!!

Yeah, I'll wholeheartedly agree with you on that..still..its the few who do who seem to ultimatly set the tone at once the holiday hype is over.

In all actuality, decorating a tree is considered pagan in true Christian beliefs and so is the commercialism involved. But, at least until the PC rangers repel in, they are free to celebrate it as they wish.

Here's a tip on what they know.

When I say ... "I am a Christian"
I'm not shouting, "I'm saved"
I'm whispering, "I get lost!"
"That is why I chose this way."

When I say ... "I am a Christian"
I don't speak of this with pride.
I'm confessing that I stumble,
and need someone to be my guide.

When I say ... "I am a Christian"
I'm not trying to be strong,
I'm professing that I'm weak,
and pray for strength to carry on.

When I say ... "I am a Christian"
I'm not bragging of success,
I'm admitting that I've failed,
and cannot ever pay the debt.

When I say ... "I am a Christian"
I'm not claiming to be perfect,
my flaws are way too visible
but God believes I'm worth it.

When I say ... "I am a Christian"
I still feel the sting of pain.
I have my share of heartaches
which is why I seek His Name.

When I say ... "I am a Christian"
I do not wish to judge.
I have no authority,
I only know I'm loved!

ps: I'm not a christian, but i'm sticking up for them since too many people are quick to jump the gun.... Maybe it is you who doesn't know what a christian is.

I see nothing wrong with people wanting to practice their faith, especially since faith in humanity is a big let down.

This has absolutely reached the point of lunacy. If there were priests screaming "Praise Jesus!" and trying to baptise everyone who came into the store that would be one thing, however banning the use of the term Merry Christmas. Are you kidding me?

I personally am a god fearing man, however I don't preach my beliefs on anyone. I persecute no one due to their beliefs - worship your god the way you see fit. I try to raise my kids the same way. I find it ironic that a good many people don't have any religous meaning when they say Merry Christmas, it's simply a term of greeting that puts a smile on most peoples faces.

Actually, it's me that doesn't really care what faith a person is, as long as they respect those of a different faith or those that have no religious affiliation.

Nice try, but it's not me you have to convince.

I think if we truly want to take Christmas back, we have to do what these pagans want. We should demand that Christ be kept in Christmas, but Christmas removed from the economic gains of stupid organizations that profit from the misinterpretation of Christmas.

If these organizations and governments don't want to help us celebrate our beliefs I'm okay with that. But we should ask that the Holiday signs be taken down, the trees be removed and they treat this like any other time of year. I refuse to have them participate in celebrating my religions holiday on their terms.

Put up the lighted trees on the 4th of July. Have school bell choirs sing carols then too. Get that fat bearded Red suit mall rat out my way. Throw his little elves on the street too. They can sweat in those outfits in early July.

Make sure the government doesn't shut down during December, because they are responsible for coming up with more stupid legislation that won't offend the minority.

When your december feels like January, your bored out of your mind because you can't oppress my holiday any further, then start to complain about the fact that since we took our holiday back your offended because we won't let you celebrate it with us.

We've bent over backwards allowing your pagan beliefs to impact how we celebrate our holiday with you and then, because we give you an inch, you insist on taking a mile.

I really enjoy this time of year because of the diversity we have. I do enjoy Santa Clause, great christmas carols and (plug your ears and close your eyes) celebrating the birth of Christ.

To make it equal, why don't you pick a day, and celebrate darwinmas. If not Darwin, how bout Atheimas. You have my word, that I will let you celebrate your day without my insistence on being offended. Additionally, I won't waste my congressman's time in trying to quelch your meaningless holiday. All I ask for in return, is let stupid offenses be. Help us keep the government from taking our freedom away. I woudn't let the government force you to go to my church, because we both no our beliefs are different. Please don't let the government steal my beliefs.

I was recently thinking about this trend, which seems to be fairly new in the US, but here in Canada it started long ago, beginning with the schools.

The internet has allowed for a dissemination of information as never before witnessed, which makes it very difficult to suppress catalogued documents on religion from making its way to the masses. One can do a search for example on the Nicene Council and then spend days sifting through the material, coming away with mind boggling information, whereas before, it was buried in lightly circulated obscure books and often times in select libraries or museums, and you had to know where to look to find it.

Virtually all cultures have been indoctrinated into one religion or another for hundreds of years, so much so that it is a driving force behind the way we live our lives. Government heads are obviously privy to much more information than the peons, and having success in keeping us in the dark. But suppose they recognize that the internet has severely restricted the degree by which they can do that relative to the religious manipulation we have been subjected to, where the falsehoods will be outed? It is not possible for the masses to be told by decree that they have been falsely led, the world would descend into chaos, but a gradual shift away from religious dogma forced on us by government would actually alter the influence religion has on the masses. It would naturally dwindle away to nothing more than cult status.
