I know there are some older threads that address bits of my question, but I just wanted to bump the topic and consolidate everything here to make sense of the whole picture.

Given this is the paranormal thread, I'd rather skip the debate about whether paranormal phenomena are real or not, and address these specific questions:

1. Is there a practical way to test objects in your house to tell if they are cursed or not?

2. What is the difference in sensation when YOU are cursed versus when one of your possessions are cursed?

3. What exactly are the differences between a curse and depression? I imagine there are many parallels, but one deals with the mental plane and the other spiritual plane?

4. Are there different symptoms between a curse and a negative haunting/entity (in the house or attached to someone)?

5. In searching for clarity I've opened myself up to several people (alternative healers) over the years I didn't know very well, hoping they might shed light on energies I couldn't see... but I've felt a bit anxious/scared each time, that they actually came in and stole some part of me/my soul... can people actually do this??

There's a strange energy in my house that's been going on for a while now, and I'm curious if some piece of art in the house, like a mask or statue, could actually be cursed.

Hoping some of the more experienced ATSers will lend an ear to my call!

I don't have all the answers, but I think there are deep powers in our minds to see bad things, just by the fact that there is an ugliness to them. That old creepy clown doll that seems to move when you're not looking? Is it beautiful, or ugly? Probably ugly, so throw it out. Surround yourself with beautiful things that make you happy, and I think you'll also be getting rid of things bad for you.

1- I don't know/haven't heard of
2- Ask someone you trust and compare your views. Someone who is not 'right' will perceive reality differently.
3- Google depression and psychosis to begin with
4- Is other people feel the same phenomenoms. Any prior tenants?
5- No. But they can mess your head.

Relax and ask a trusted friend to help seeing through.

Hmm... makes sense, though the concept has eluded me for a while. Thanks for the input.

I suppose I'm basing my ideas on anecdotes about cursed objects that created a lot of negativity for people, even if they didn't necessarily believe in curses or the item wasn't objectively creepy, like a bracelet or something.

Also, some of the items in question aren't actually mine (owned by my parents), so I'd definitely have to test it out (if that is even possible!) before I throw anything away based on my hunches.

Thanks for the feedback. I understand the basic ideas of depression and psychosis, but mental health care in 2014, IMHO, is in the dark ages compared to other realms of science and medicine... so depression to me can often be a wastebasket diagnosis-- where doctors throw away a whole range of unexplainable symptoms under one blanket category. Since soul/spirit doesn't exist as far as science is concerned, any symptoms of a curse I assume would be explained in terms of psychotic behavior or another mental issue. The question was more directed at those who have more experience with curses or hauntings-- what makes those cases different, and where do you draw the line?

For instance, they say depression can cause a cloudy head. Can someone be cursed with a cloudy head? Or are curses more like having a never ending string of bad luck? How would the two cloudy heads vary from each other?

Regarding prior tenants, there was a family, but as far as I know nothing extraordinary happened. Of course, they wouldn't have mentioned anything if they were trying to sell it to us.

Also, that's a relief on #5! I figured if energy clearing is a thing, then maybe it's possible that otherwise irreplaceable good energy could be stripped away (or stolen) too if you open yourself up to it...

Question one- Did you buy the object from a strange old man in a antique store ?

Question two- Is the object an old doll ?

Question three- Has the object asked you to make it a cup of tea ?

As for searching for one , I would try a pendulum.
Hold it over the object and ask.
Clockwise for no , counterclockwise for yes.

Can someone be cursed with a cloudy head?
-yes, possession would be a more accurate term, where an entity uses, negative and low vibrational thoughts (clouded head) as its entrance to use the body for its own will. Remember, the human body houses spirit, this doesn't mean just you, and some beings will take advantage of a egotistic type person as they are easy to control by manipulating their thoughts.

This dictionary may be of use to you.

You will find topics regarding the things you seek.

Objects can contain energy and whether its good or bad depends difference in vibrational frequency between the object and your own.

No, unless you are an experienced pro. Otherwise you should just get rid of things you believe might be cursed.

3. What exactly are the differences between a curse and depression? I imagine there are many parallels, but one deals with the mental plane and the other spiritual plane?

I only make the distinction between the physical (which is the same to everyone) and the mental/spiritual, which is the same plane and is a whole system which goes beyond our own planet. One might get depressed when there are entities from the spiritual plane who are often restless seeking out something, since it distracts from life and can be hard to shut out.

Yes, except for the stealing it is more like you gave it to them freely. You might not see it this way but you didn't use those 'paranormal' braincells yourself but let someone else try to fix things for you. If you don't want this you will have to develop yourself and certainly not hold grudges against specialists who wanted to fix things for you.

You should just get rid of the object in a respectful manner. The afterlife is full of restless spirits (sure there are those who find rest but they never cause any problems or do anything since they are 'asleep') and magic is often only used for personal gains, either you try to understand it all completely so you can let it go and find inner peace again or you'll become one of the restless souls yourself. Don't expect to become the next Messiah who has undeniable proof though, to point out just one of the most obvious pitfalls.

Or you could just leave it all be and focus on life again and whatever it might be will go away overtime.

Regarding #3) Read "The Unveiling" or 'indigo transitioning into crystal/octarine..." By the author Sunfell. You can find it, or not, via a web search. When/if You read it, You'll see that "NO" You're not depressed as much as 'awakening' to the new Earth, 'want vs. need' "is this all there is?.." When Mother Earth shifted dimensions/chakras (The Maya Prophecy) 'many' got an 'in-field promotion' and became more 'aware' of their surroundings and the "Akasha"...

It "is" whatever You think it "is"...

Can you explain this a bit more? I certainly didn't intend to freely give away any part of my soul/spirit and even prayed for protection from trickery before I met up with them. Is there a way to "get it back" so to speak?

Also, I'm not sure if I'm trying to completely understand magic... I would, however, like to get to the point of being able to distinguish between what's simply bad luck/coincidence/depression and what's actively cursing or haunting you.

Thanks for the recommendation-- I'll definitely check out that book. I've heard some of that idea before, and it does make sense in the big picture... Sometimes I think stress is like a negative spin on the very force that stimulates change-- rather than let it burn you in the process of harnessing that energy, simply let it pass through or even put a positive spin on it by letting it excite you that you're making a change?

I'm not sure though if this big picture thing is what's going on here... this is more directly related to home itself and the energy I feel stepping into the house.

1. Is there a practical way to test objects in your house to tell if they are cursed or not?

Not to my knowledge.

2. What is the difference in sensation when YOU are cursed versus when one of your possessions are cursed?

Your subjective experience is your own. Do you seem to have had bad luck your whole life or in a stretch of time? You may want to look into Uncrossing rituals.

3. What exactly are the differences between a curse and depression? I imagine there are many parallels, but one deals with the mental plane and the other spiritual plane?

You can get depression (and other emotions) from the impression of a 'spirit'. Is the depression ongoing? Is your lifestyle healthy? I would figure out if all the non-spiritual stuff is in order first. Again, you can look into uncrossing/removal of curses ritual as a last resort. It's unlikely you're cursed. Are you a strong-willed individual?

4. Are there different symptoms between a curse and a negative haunting/entity (in the house or attached to someone)?

They can have some mutual phenomenon. Again, a spirit can make you feel depressed. So can mental illness, and not living a healthy lifestyle.

5. In searching for clarity I've opened myself up to several people (alternative healers) over the years I didn't know very well, hoping they might shed light on energies I couldn't see... but I've felt a bit anxious/scared each time, that they actually came in and stole some part of me/my soul... can people actually do this??

Do you believe they can? Have you protected yourself? I wouldn't worry about this.

New Age spirituality has a lot of dogma. I would take it with a grain of salt, if I were you. Remember, if you believe it, you make it real for yourself.

Listen, whenever I deal with this sort of stuff, usually brought on by occult experimentation, which I've been doing for years, I just do a simple banishing ritual and a smudging. That's it. Nowadays, I don't even bother with that anymore; I just laugh the 'bad' stuff away.

Here's a simple solution for you. Buy a gallon jug of distilled water. Add some seasalt. Mix it up, pour some of the water into a small bowl. Pray (whatever your deity/etc is) over the bowl, or as an alternative, hold your hand over the bowl and envision the bowl filling up with light until it's brighter than you can see in your mind's eye. Now, take the bowl in hand, walk through your dwelling, and dip your fingers into the bowl and sprinkle drops of water about your house as you pray to your deity, to the light, whatever. Imagine light filling every place you sprinkle the water and driving away any detrimental forces. You could also do a smudging; use some sage to burn and 'smudge' your place as well, saying a prayer or a mantra, which drives the 'bad' stuff away. Be light-hearted. No fear. Laugh this stuff away. Laughter is a powerful banisher. Either your Will will be done, or you need to work on that. I seriously doubt if you would need more than this to clean your place up. Your place will feel lighter and refreshed, and anything 'bad' was really there, you may now feel the lack of it's presence.

Never go to spiritual types and ask if you're cursed. They will usually always say yes and then try to sell you something.

Here's what I think I know. I own guns. I own a WW2 rifle that has seen a lot of action and I'm sure it has a body count. My dog will not go near it. Hates it and growls at it. She has even snapped at it. If I bring out a different rifle the dog could care less about it. So with her taking offense to this one particular rifle over several others that are new and have not seen war. I have imagined that the gun is haunted or something along that lines. Bad mojo or energy maybe. I don't think its affecting my day to day though. Wish I could be more helpful.

It's not a book but a few paragraphs. Remember Earth is a "Free Will Zone" and unless You invited any 'intrusion' You can also have "them/it" leave..

You can think of your surrounding as a probability field that can be manipulated by you and others both in good and bad ways. Synchronicity (coincidence) is an aspect of the field. If you want more control of your surrounding own your surrounding and push energy into the field so your surrounding becomes energized. If you do not know any energy tools like meditation or Reiki then you might wanna look around for a tool that fit you like a glove.

I really don't have answers to all your questions and know little about curses, whether they are real or not, etc. but I read that in regards to depression, if you feel it all the time, it is most likely your depression and a doctor could help you treat it. But if you go through periods where you are fine or happy and then suddenly feel depressed for no reason, it just comes over you, it could very well be a down, depressed or negative earthbound spirit that is next to you and you have picked up that spirits feelings.

Hope this helps,
SanFrancisco
