The first three-dimensional visible light invisibility cloak

Researchers at the University of Rochester are reporting that they’ve built the first invisibility cloak that works in three dimensions, viewed from a range of angles, across the full spectral range of visible light. As you can see in the photo above, and in the video below, the invisibility effect is rather effective — and, importantly, it creates very little “telltale” distortion that usually accompanies such early attempts at cloaking (the grid lines are perfectly straight and not magnified/minimized). Best of all, though: You can make this particular kind of invisibility cloak yourself!

Came across this article at one of the technology sites i frequent and thought it may be of some interest. I dont see my self being able to build or implement any of the technology involved but im sure there are others out there that may find the subject of some interest.

Nice. How long till available for public?

This is part of the reason I started coming to ats. Back in 2005, it seemed I'd found a paradise for science buffs and intellectuals looking for like minded folks to share amazement at stories like this and to uncover truth in a relatively rational way.

I became disgusted in 2009 when a new breed of "debunkers" began joining with no other apparent purpose than obfuscating truth and derailing threads.

This story is a happy reminder of the early days. Thanks.

Put it this way i wouldn't get my hopes up this side of Christmas 2020, if it does work the way advertised I imagine the materials will still an issue for some time to come(Lenses and such) and probably cost an arm and a leg. Probobly see military applications more than lightly(pun intended) before any commercial applications.

No its just bending light to where there is a small sliver that sends the picture to the far lens that opens the image back up.

You will notice that in all the images they never have 100% of something being cloaked.

There is a websight that explains how to make one.

Looks like something fun to do in the garage.

I get that it can be built yourself i was thinking more along the lines of when the technology will become commercialised. Trust me if it does indeed have the ability to make objects appear invisible someone somewhere will inevitably find a way to market a product and make money from it.

Yeah I agree. I mean in theory with large enough lenses you could cloak your house from the street which would be pretty cool. Cloaked duck blinds?

I got a pleasant taste of that from my first thread post a few days ago regarding a chemtrail video I took. Aside from two supportive posts (though not very helpful), I was press ganged into submission. Literally a non stop barrage of skeptics and insults.... It definitely leads one to question whether there really are government shills posting disinformation and misleading others from the truth...

Ignore them. Their entire act is debunking, "informing", and "setting straight" through insults and clouded logic.

Sadly this is the internet. You're either paying to use it, or you're paid to use it.

We've had stuff like this for a long time the problem is many would not use it responsibly. Besides civilians can you imagine the terrible things governments would use this for (if not already)? S + F

So the invisibility only works if you force someone to look through a little lens?

Not to disparage their work but this seems completely useless.

If you are trying to cloak yourself that means you don't want someone to see you

If you can control the method that person uses to look at you, then you can already stop them from seeing you.

So what is the point of this? Are some people thinking this is actually any sort of a cloak?

It's all about perspective really but the point I imagine is the tech in its current iteration is no more than of a proof of concept design/experiment, the possibilities through are clearly evident. Probably work best cloaking stationary objects all the same.

Because unlike the object in the OP, Chemtrails do not exist. When one denies ignorance they realize Harry Potter has more to do with reality than chemtrail believers.

So this invisibility cloak only works on a small scale with a lens or can you really wear this full body cloak and be invisible?

This is an all around bad idiea or invention. It opens up so many problems. Problems like people may get this technology and use it for things like: To rob or steal, to watch or spy on others, to hide or conceal yourself identity, use as a weapon to conceal your troops in an ambush and to make structures like airplanes invisible. Maybe there is some truth to wonderwoman flying around in a dissapearing jet.
