Those who seek positions of high power usually have something to hide. They feel having power will allow them to hide their shortcomings / coverup their activities. There are also those who will use those shortcomings of others to ensure that they themselves maintain positions of power.

Makes you wonder about the people that admire those in power, is their consent to be controlled just another attempt to hide their own inequities?

I judge all politicians according to ethics, liberal, conservative, or in the middle. Obama is guilty of the following: Funding illicit civil wars in Libya and Syria to execute regime change for American power. Continuing the drone strikes. Continuing the domestic surveillance that Bush overtly signed on to with the Patriot ACt.

What was Bush, the "Christian" and born again president guilty of?: The war crime of invading a sovereign country that posed no threat and had nothing to do with 911, resulting in 200,000 CIViLIANS dead, torturing people (also a war crime), and beginning the slide towards fascism including with the Patriot Act, and beginning the whole drone thing. Bush by far started this whole Anti-Constitutional slide.

Bush also is responsible for 200,000 civilians dead, not to mention thousands of americans in Iraq. He belongs behind bars, and only a fool thinks that Obama's crimes (yes crimes) equal Bush's war crimes. Again, bush's torture and war crimes of aggression on other nations trumps Obama's continuation of drones and NSA as well as civil war funding. Lesser of two evils.

Most of the Religious Right that I know personally were all for Bush when he invaded two countries and TORTURED people. There was no wisdom in them. There was no holy spirit telling them it was wrong. If they had the "fruits of the spirit" and were being "as wise as a serpent but innocent as a dove," they would have known it was wrong. Now my mom, who is a Republican evangelical woman, finally recognizes that Bush was wrong on these counts. Where was the spirit back then bro? If Christianity is producing awareness, ethics, and wisdom? I don't see it. It isn't there.

Again, yes, there are good religious people and bad. Good atheists and bad, etc.

HOWEVER, i have seen very little correlation between being a Christian and having good behavior. There seems to be very little correlation, which detracts from Christians' message that Christianity, Jesus, salvation, and the Holy Spirit actually lead to a better path and actions. Jesus said to judge a path by the fruits of the spirit. I quite simply do not see it bro in most Christians I know. A few yes. But I also see the "fruits of the spirit" in a lot of atheists, hindus, Muslims, etc. No correlation with Christianity.

Eh, with all due respect, I've seen a lot of horrific behavior from many of the most "Christian" people out there. George Bush claimed to be a Christian but tortured people and killed 200,000 civilians in Iraq.

Of all of the women I have dated, the only one who cheated on me fully was a born-again Christian who goes to church 2-3 times a week. I'm not impressed to say the least by Christians and their "fruit of the spirit."

I am curious if you judge Obama the same, obviously these things continue under his administration. The difference would be Obama's kill list and his complete negation of constitutional rights for US citizens in his zeal to assassinate with drone attacks. Of course he is on tape claiming to be both Christian and Muslim this must make both faiths terrible by your description.

Honestly you shouldn't let your poor choice in women allow you to decide on the quality of ones faith. If that were the case I would never read the bible again or go to any church. I prayed and prayed asking God to send me something other than treacherous letches and it wasn't until I was 53 years young before I figured out he had been doing it all along I just preferred them.

I don't look at a single person or event and let it determine the outcome of anything. You must be a good person Luke the Darkside has been working you successfully.

Fair enough, but why does the Vatican protect them?

Yes, it brings to mind a whole new (to me) reason why those in power are always trying so hard to keep so many in poverty and bring poverty to even more areas. They want a Neverending supply of desperate people to feed their many perversions. A healthy, enlightened population with ready access to all the tools necessary for happiness and success which should be available to all in a society with today's level of technology and abundance would never willingly subject themselves to such a severe level of submission, giving up their own free will and even going as far as to infringe upon the free will of others in order to get by or to have a small taste of the abundance that the masters dole out to their servents on a drip feed reward system.

If he did this then shame on him and the catholic church....but who's to say he's automatically guilty?
It wouldn't be the first time someone was blackmailed for whatever reason.

How can this happen ?

How many people turned their heads ?

Why would men of God do this.

I am repulsed and disgusted. This is why I dislike Religion.

Why would a man of God do this? Well, probably because he's not is really a man of God. It's just his cover.

Disgusting and it's amazing how anyone can still have faith in and put trust in the church, given how often this sort of story comes out.

Like a number of other professions, it's almost as if religion is becoming more a chosen career for paedophiles due to the easy access to youngsters and the trust that is intrinsically placed in them. The saddest part of all is that these stories are no longer a surprise.

The harshest possible penalty the Vatican can level against a priest like this is to defrock them. They also managed to recall him to Rome just in the nick of time to save him from being facing criminal charges in the Dominican Republic.
Sure, their going to hang him out to dry but I don't expect him to spend time behind bars. He will probably just get to live his life like any other civilian.

I'm all for people believing and following any religion they desire, I choose not to follow anything, however.... It always seems that 'people of faith' are the ones that hide behind their positions and labels only to abuse the power they're given.

My understanding is that he's going to the Vatican jail (I didn't know they had one), he's been defrocked, and is facing seven years. The Pope has been indicating that he is really after this guy and won't interfere with a seven year sentence.

I don't have a clue, but I wonder if he goes back to the DR when his time is served? Although, from all the reports, his health won't last that long.

People with any power in any walk of life are tempted, at times, to misuse their powers. Religion or the City Council, pretty much the same. It's a problem within each of us.

Good morning Charles,

I look at this from a common sense approach, if I was the evil one and it is a battle of good versus evil as we know it to be. Who is going to be the greatest challenge with the grandest results of moving them to evil? Who will I work the hardest to make fall? Of course the answer is any person in a position of power with followers to do good in the world. Although they should have the highest faith and knowledge of the efforts necessary to defeat such evil, I feel they are worked the hardest.

The part I find the most difficult in society today is the disdain in which people make blanket statements against churches, priest, pastors, etc. and religion as a whole. Any comment said on this forum in terms of a race, politics, nationality, gender, etc. is immediately attacked as being a blanket statement, with several links to sources proving the members opinion wrong. We attack opinions and people blanketly, it is quite hypocritical when the same people make blanket statements regarding religion, and the people involved. Never mind the millions that contribute to society in incredible ways everyday. Evil works effortlessly with these folks, they appear to help at every opportunity.

No one will argue that the Catholic church has handled the issue of child molesting priest is a terrible manner. But while they choose to throw the baby out with the bathwater someone needs to consider with appx. 500K priest worldwide and the amount of services provided to the people of the world, hardly are they the evil entity as they are described.

In todays world politically motivated people appear to be making excuses for evils of Islam extremist and remain PC in their description, and their actions, while blanket statements abound in comparison to other religions. We have to stop the finger pointing and address the real problem of good versus evil and the implications on society everyday.

The 2 ¢ of one old guy.

Dear MarlinGrace,

Sorry to take so long to get back to you, it's been a tricky week.

I'm saddened by some of your observations. Not because you made them, mind you, but because they're true. I hope you won't mind if I'm a little more frank than usual.

There is a war on in ATS, as there is in the country, and in the world. The most distinguishing mark of one of the Armies in the war is the desire for power over others, control over the world, and the belief that they are the ones set aside by destiny to be the rulers of mankind.

Their principle weapon is an attitude, an attitude of "Win at any cost." On ATS, it is insults, thread derailments, pushing false information, refusing to change position when shown to be wrong. Never giving up an inch, always attacking so they can be in control eventually. To find this, look at the people attacking Israel, supporting Russia, condemning the US and holding it responsible for everything. They will also claim that only a teeny tiny fraction of Muslims are extremists, that man caused global warming will kill us all by the end of the century (or earlier), and if we haven't been killed by global warming, we'll all be dead from vaccines or GMOs.

Please understand, I'm not saying that those positions are wrong (although they are), I'm simply saying their defended with blind faith. Even religious people occasionally querstion their faith, but not these people.

At the national and global level, you'll find assassinations, both physical and of character, agencies will be misused to attack the people this army doesn't agree with, laws will be disregarded and constitutions ignored. The press will overlook a moral failing by someone on their side, and trumpet it if performed by one of the enemy. (I supposed everyone noticed the flood of news reports that Tom DeLay has finally been found innocent of everything, while the political prosecution of him was criticized by courts. No? See what I mean?)

That presents an interesting (to me) question. At what point does the other side adopt the same policies? The "throw people under the bus" if it helps get a win. The "least transparent government in history." The subjectint thousands of the "enemy" to audits and malicious prosecution. The terrorizing of journalists by conducting raids on their homes and tapping their phones.

Or, shall we continue to fight nobly and honorably, even though it leads to defeat?

Me? I'm off to die with Odin.

With respect,
Charles1952
