Thanks for your post.

I think as 3D printers mature and get better, we'll eventually get to "desktop manufacturing." It won't be mass-production, but it will eliminate the time and money of using foreign manufacturers, and all the supply-line middlemen.

And Yes, there are 3D printers now that can manufacture in metal:

I don't know what's more disturbing: this strange survey, or the reason behind asking it. (Are the sneaky Dems trying to attack the GOP sideways, since Hillary's poor judgement has embedded her in multiple scandals? Again? Or is it race-baiting to keep the inflammatory Ferguson issues alive?)

www.theblaze.com... ter/
DIFFERENCES BETWEEN REPUBLICANS AND DEMOCRATS WHEN IT COMES TO SURVIVING AN APOCALYPTIC DISASTER
So what if 43% of Republicans think they'd "survive longer" after a major catastrophie? They probably think about it more as a "real possibility" under Team Obama, and have "stocked up" with emergency supplies.

While 47% of Dems think they'd "survive about as long as everyone else." (Well, of course! Obama's voter base has been well taken care of - from expanded welfare and food stamps, to unemployment benefits "extended" for years, to multiple times the number of people on Disability since Team Obama took over. I guess they forgot Hurricane Katrina, and think the federal government will immediately ride to their rescue ...)

And speaking of race-baiting, Farrakan is back in the news:

We wont decline from superpower status ever.

Some people wont like this but.... Immigration and Investment prevent that from happening. I'm not saying it might not be a mess here at times, i'm not saying the players will look the same. I'm not even saying we will be called "The USA" but regardless we'll be "A" if not "the" center of the world.

1: The trend would be to absorption into a larger body rather then dissolution into separate states. If the USA goes kaput the likely scenario is a North American Union (not sure if an "empire" technically "ends" if it becomes part of a bigger empire) In all reality, with over 60% of the population the USA doesn't do "bad" if it fails and is reestablished as part of a North American Union, it's not like Mexicans and Canadians are much different, the patriotism's are almost amusing, for all intents and purposes nothing would change, it's not like anything we do to prevent Mexicans North of the border matters at this point, Obama has seen to it the border didn't actually exist anyway to the South. Americans aren't going to "flood" the North in search of snow, lol. There would be a lot of perks returned, border stops between places like TJ and Vancouver, New York... Buffalo, Toronto.

There's no way America going down wouldn't take Mexico and Canada with us, the restructuring would take a lot of cooperation and effort, the ground work for it is already there, things like interdependence for food and water trump all if things get "bad" it could take Two years or Thirty, but this would come back together as an NAU almost as a certainty.

2: America derives a lot of power because we are a people of many nations, for a long time and certainly through "the American Century" the fact that we are British and German and Irish, Italian, Dutch, Norwegian, French... has left family ties and good business relations with Europe, including NATO, it makes us more powerful. It's not like this factor will go away. At the same time however, we are gaining Latin America and Asia over the long haul in a similar relationship as we have with Europe. China is buying up the US while it can and there is no situation where both it and India in the not too distant future. Sure China is now the worlds leading economy and they are buying "us" no one buys property to build a slum... and truthfully, there is a lot of unused land here and the immigration is coming. America will be a pacific Rim Nation so will Canada and Mexico it's people will reflect that. There's a whole new economy in it's infancy here.

3: Science and Technology make the economic concerns less troubling, we are way ahead of the curve, not in our public education, but in our research, phd's, innovation. We have a 17 trillion dollar debt but we also are towing in an asteroid, on a not much larger scale that's worth 17 trillion dollars by itself. We were oil dependent now we are a top exporter. We had no new Industries because of cheap over seas labor, Thousands of new companies later, companies like Google and Microsoft we have new Industries. There will be many New Business arenas, some no one could even predict just a few years earlier

4: Military, we could stop working on it for 30 years and when we looked so long as we maintained what we have we'd still be a top 5 and we'd never do that. As super power status goes, being able to kill everyone ranks high. That factor isn't going anywhere

5: resources, food, water. We'll always be okay, referring back to no 1 "by itself" America and certainly mexico lacks, But combined Canada, Mexico and America can easily feed and Water everyone regardless of population, when you factor in global warming and crops moving North maybe and the need for Water as a continent when you factor in Canada all the rest of us do well, and that's where this is going one way or another, inter-cooperation in this hemisphere.

So just to reiterate.

We are as a continent fine, we have food, water, no real access for land invasion. Despite the isolation we hve the worlds top military including Thousands of ICBM's, the ability to seriously project force and 300 Billion Dollar Black budget keeping it all way ahead technologically, we will never not be a Military superpower. We constantly invest in new technology which creates unexpected economic potentials and via immigration we maintain family and business ties to any economic zones that flourish around the world.

North America will be up there, with China, East Asia, Europe, India as a giant Economic and Military entity... It doesn't change much, We were a bipolar world during the cold war, a Uni Polar world for a generation and soon to be a multi polar super power world, but we are a super power in almost any event.

Thanks for your thoughtful post. And others have agreed with you in past posts, that over the long run, the U.S. will always be a Superpower.

What concerns me is the micro-view, of little things that could grow and de-rail us someday as a SuperPower. We have a government, second administration in a row, of extremely poor leadership. Meaning that "others" in the government have the real power, and are "doing their own thing," while the denizen of the Oval Office is wheeling around on a dolly to the next speech or appointment.

And most government departments/agencies are too massive to have effective transparency, oversight and supervision. So, again, everyone just "does their own thing" according to party-affiliation - and pray they never get caught. (Although Team Obama's reaction is to go after the whistle-blowers and trash IG reports.)

And the gulf between the haves and have-nots is growing. Few civilizations, historically, have survived such a divide.

Thanks for your post. But except for a few die-hard rebels who hate everything associated with the government, I don't foresee ordinary citizens rising up to start an armed rebellion - unless the government attacks first, which many feared in Obama's first term.

Most citizen-led rebellions in history (and today in Third World countries) are NOT over religion or politics. These are furious citizens without adequate food, clean water, safe shelter, access to quality medical care or a system to educate their young.

Foreign aid goes into corrupt leaders' pockets, instead of to crumbling infrastructures and building a country-wide power system. And voting is a joke, with the most corrupt and greedy leaders always winning. THIS is what starts citizens' rebellions.

We are a relatively new country with a violent history. Like in the Old West, sometimes a firearm is all that stands between you and evil. So don't look for the U.S. to EVER disarm.

I'm sure all the past superpowers of the planet thought the same thing.

I mean only 100yrs ago the UK was a superpower and not long before that so were France and Spain.

Before that many others - greeks, romans, egyptians....... Most of these european countries got morally corrupt and imploded due to years of corruption by those running the country. Exactly the same thing is happening in the USA now - you are tearing yourselves apart from within.

I am very sure Rome thought that too.

The Romans would have also have pissed themselves laughing if you told them the Dumb half Naked human sacrificing poor uncivilized barbarian Brits on that small wet cold insignificant island would rise up and rule most of the world between 1700-1945

Random things happen in history and superpower come out of the least expected places.

Former super powers and the US have nothing to do with each other. The US is not a super power it is a Hyper Power in way nothing in history can compare. It has no true rivals. It has in fact continued to grow in power in the last decade. And it is not single component that creates its power, it is a mixture of military, polical, economic, and cultural power that allows the US to so much more powerful than the resy of the world and not only do the other powers not fear that power, they in facy are happy it is there. Will this power decline at some time? It is possible of course. However, nobody else is even close even with a decline.

You are no different than the roman empire. Dont think yourself special.

At the height of its power when Carthage ,Greece and all most all the Macedonian states were under it thumb there was no rival. It was beyond everyone at the time politically and militarily. Right up until it got cocky and corrupt.

No In fact the USA as a superpower is not even a century old and as a hyper power even less.

I doubt your downfall will happen this century (providing yellowstone does not go bang) and probably the next. In fact it may well last 500 years.

If the USA is still the sole superpower still in 2600 AD I will treat you all as special little snow flakes.

But at the moment your just another page in human history under superpowers.

where are people getting their news from these days...?

America isn't going anywhere anytime soon, Europe might though considering their past.

I mean look we had to place the UN there and give them a Universal Deceleration of Human Rights, these barbarians nearly totally utterly destroyed themselves in the past two world wars.

America is a Nation of immigrants, the first of it's kind in this department too... the family unit is still one of the main driving forces for immigration to the United States.

Still #1 by quite a margin and with only 5% of the Global Population.

I'd say USA is exceptionally special...

Don't think of the USA as Roman Empire until you visit Washington DC.

Think of USA as the Ancient Greek

Well we have a LONG way to go before we surpass Rome in greatness. We've only existed for 200 or so years (and only about 150 of them were us behaving like an empire). The Roman Empire(s) existed FAR longer. Even the notorious Western Roman Empire lasted longer than we've been a country. The Eastern Roman Empire (Byzantium) lasted up until the modern era (WWI).

And you barbarian basically oversaw the genocide of the Natives

Not really.

American exceptionalism is a load of bollocks.

You are just humans like the rest of the world.

You are number one cause Germany bombed our industry and bankrupted our economy in WW2 and you got out of WW2 relativily unscathed with a whole Continent of resources.

End of the day you are no more different than any other human.

China is so far behind because it has only just entered the developed world.

Roman Empire was the Western Europe...

There were two Romes, the eastern was Byzantium which lasted I believe 1155 years thru history.

The Western Empire was always considered the barbaric and uncivilized part of the Empire.

Greek influenced the Western Empire in many ways, not just bringing Christianity to the West.

Current Western Civilization is based on Greek Democracy, not Roman Imperialism.

The USA carries that torch high and proud.

I should add, that USA is not a Catholic Nation, unlike most of Europe church dominance.

the two largest Church groups in USA are Protestant and Eastern Orthodox.

Eastern Orthodox Christians are among the wealthiest Christian denominations in the United States.[184] They also tend to be better educated than most other religious groups in America, having a high number of graduate (68%) and post-graduate (28%) degrees per capita.

you know those scientific christians... unlike Catholics who adhere to tradition.
