A Strange Streak Imaged in Australia

I figured this would be the best place to post this, even if it doesn't deal entirely with space. APOD usually does.

A strange streak image in Australia (APOD)

Any ideas?

Very small meteorite hitting a lampost. 1 in 1,000,000,000,000 picture.

? so, why don't they give us the GPS numbers (coordinates)??

it just may be a very uncommon series of conditions like the
humidity at altitude, lighting, ionization, gamma rays, or any
number of catalysts which caused the normally invisible lines
[Longitude + Latitude...on navigational maps] to become
briefly visible (and captured on film?)

With enough time and equipment, and tremendous luck, one
might be able to record both the ley-lines on land
and those Latitude/Longitude lines which radiate from the
earths core?, thru the mantle and outward thru the biosphere
and dissapating somewhere in the stratosphere...

perhaps a SETI like, govt funded enterprise is in order....

For the 2 guys above me, study the picture again.

The streak itself isn't the really impressive part of the picture, its the impact flash on the lampost thats whacked.

If it was a ghost, I doubt it would give that effect on the lampost ..

Very strange picture. It may be the asteroid (if indeed it were an asteroid) is landing behind the lampost in the water. Although it does look like light coming from the post. (It may be sun glancing off the side of the ball of water kicked up).

It could be blue ice not and asteroid.
Or has anyone seen those Fosters adverts on UK tv where the fridges get chucked out the plane for not containing Fosters!

In that case there wouldn't be anymore any of those lamp posts... or even that camera.
Object is generally classified as asteroid when its size is over few dekameters.

I would agree with that except, it shouldnt do as much damage as that, dent it certainly but not take out the whole lamp head. The atmosphere should slow it down to gentle fall, if it is a small meteorite. Just the other month here in the UK some old lady got hit by a tiny meteorite, she was shocked as anyone would be, but quite fine apart from that.

that flash is too large to be a lamp, too off-centered also
that 'flash' seems inherent to the (ghostly) fog (resembling a 'Geni' of Alladins lamp fame) which i've seen many times- but higher up in the clouds -
just a prismic or lensing of the sun caused by the reflections in the cloud/fog material....your just in the right-place-right-time to record it.

but that 'trail-streak-line' or whatever....is also a coincidence
or else this whole thing was conjured up...didn't you also see the
'Mr Globie' ala Pee-wee 's PlayHouse within the swirls of water
where the axis point of a triangle would be sun-flash-Globie/axis

Maybe some one was doing some target practice with a railgun. It can't be a laser unless the guy who took that picture was sent there to get the shot and was given a camera with a filter to stop what ever wavelenght (colour) of laser being used.

I believe this went around the news several weeks ago. It's a proposed meteorite caught on film. Talk about snapping the right picture at exactly the right time. I wonder if any one has tried to do debunk this though, as it is a one in a million shot.

Its where a flyin roo took off mate, the jump at incredible speed, what your seeing is the after image of its tail moving, like a fast moved sparkler cases after streak in the dark!

ummmm....zuhalter - heres some future advice, dont post a link that goes to a website that changes the picture & the content everyday.

Sorry I don't have the link, but it is indeed an asteroid hitting the lamp-post, with someone who just so happened to be taking a pic at the time...an INSANELY improbable event that actually did happen

I think its rediculous how we can get a picture of a asteroid hiting a lanp post but not one good credible picture of a ufo.

Well... Earth's mass increases hundred(s) tons per day because of dust and meteoroids "raining down".
So there's propably many of those coming down to surface.
And eventually there will be these "coincidenses".
(peas in army's pea soup are called with that name )


PS. Again: it's not an asteroid, it would have been detected with seismographs and barometers... and from shockwave and fireball rising to the sky.

Also, a little more info from the guy who took the picture...

no no no .. I SAW THAT THE OTHER DAY WHILE I WAS DRIVING TO SAN FRANSICO.. I thought I was seeing #.. but like I kept on focusing in, and thats what it was exactly .. a dark Streak. What was weird about it was that.. it didnt look like it was a cloud or like exaust from somthing.. it looked like a solid streak. odd.
