Thank you so much for the thoughtful and cohesive reply. That paints a very clear picture to me. Just like you did not get any news from the West, here in the US we got no news of communism that wasn't painted with a propaganda brush. I was just curious if life there was really that bad but you said it was peaceful so long as you toed the party line.
