The point of something being addictive is if there are withdrawals. You could say doing art is addictive just because people want to keep doing it. Addictive is about what the body and mind go through in the absence of it. So no, marijuana is not addictive. No physical or psychological withdrawals if you go without.

I can't agree with anything you have said. The paranoia is from the thought of it being illegal and getting caught not the drug itself. I think you are either confusing your drugs or have no experience with what you are talking about and just reciting what the media has been shoving down your throat for years

To answer the original question posed, based upon the medical communities current stance, marijuana is not more addictive than alcohol. Fast forward 100 years, we'll view all escapist activities to be equally addictive. The whole conversation is a non starter.....

Marijuana DOES have withdrawal symptoms. See this post on page 2:

That is a blog and does not reference any studies it is personal opinion of what the writer thinks the withdrawls should be based on other similar seeming drugs. And stretches those ideas out to the max. I've known people to smoke for years and quit for years worst thing was some insomnia for a day or 2.

Even then I've seen worse withdrawls and side effects on commercials for medications that solve simpler things than they cause.

Go talk to a real addict about withdrawls then you'll realize how absurd these marijuana "withdrawls" are that they're exaggerating.

I'm picturing a scene from a movie with Bob Saggat in an addiction support group...

SMH.

Wasn't "Reefer Madness" made back in like 1936 or something?

Look, I never said that the withdrawal symptoms are severe. I just said that they exist, which is true. Caffeine has withdrawal symptoms, but for most people they are so negligible that you either don't notice them or get over them pretty quickly. But that doesn't mean they don't exist. Not to mention drugs effect people differently. Even if we are talking about withdrawal symptoms that for most people are mild to non-existent, for some people they will be much worse than everyone else. If you were to read the comments section of that link, you'd see that there were quite a few people who said they experienced them and were upset that people like you were saying they don't exist.

This is exactly why Marijuana is still illegal in most states. Fear Porn like this, is exactly the kind've stuff they have been using for years. But weed is still better than taking most of the drugs we are prescribed.

Nope but its a hell of a lot less toxic, enjoyable and also has medicinal purposes that are off the scale.

I know most of us are skeptical of graphs and poll's anymore.
But I think we can all agree on this one...

If you take away the ramifications of Cannabis being illegal it falls down to the level of '___' and shrooms.
ETA:
Always find it funny where '___' is on this graph.

There is absolutely no chance that cannabis is more addictive than alcohol...
The dependency on alcohol is both psychological and physiological... Ontop of these very strong addictive properties severe alcohol abuse leads to many debilitating or even deadly health risks...
And with the impairment of both physical and mental abilities we have a very real health risk to those who abuse alcohol that even spills over to those who do not use alcohol... I am referring to the poor choice physical inability of driving drunk...
The mental aspect of addiction presents itself with the odds of repeat dui occurrence... Even for those previously jailed or guilty of manslaughter...
Another huge aspect of this addiction can be attributed to the lie the user is subjected to when using alcohol as their inhabitions are lowered and feel as though they can do anything....The drunker and less able they are... The greater the belief...

Cannabis has no physical addiction... It does have some mental addiction problems associated with it... The mental addiction is not very strong and can be overcome with a desire to obstain... The enjoyment level is enough to be highly desirable though so individuals that use especially children often resort to crime to get it... Children should not use it because it is suggested that usage prevents the brain from actually maturing they way it normally would... Cannabis presents no real attributed health risks from its use... The rolling papers often used when smoking have been found to be a greater health risk than the cannabis... However while Cannabis cant be linked to causing and health problems it can irritate existing conditions such as heart disease and schizophrenia... To compare driving under the influence of Cannabis to alcohol... Cannabis does not remove inhibitions instead it makes users hyper sensitive even paranoid... So it is far more rare for individuals to run the risk of driving impared because of the doubt and even fear they feel while effected... And get this by the time these symptoms wear off the impairment level has also dropped like a built in saftey feature...
Alcohol has very few health benifits and these are only applicable to moderate consumption....
Cannabis has a myriad of medicinal usages some are downright miraculous... And many industrial usages as well...
So based on what we know... Alcohol should be illegal and Cannabis should be legal...
The poor decisions by the lawmakers leads me to believe they were drunk...

There's habituation and there is chemical dependence. Based upon the individual, there can be 'withdrawal' from either. Stop a chronic Facebook user from getting their 'fix' if you don't believe me. You can get habituated to anything. The whole war against cannabis is and always has been nonsense driven by a business agenda that pulled politics into the equation to make it stick. Research the Rockefellers and their paper business.

Really, anything can be addictive.

Addiction doesn't really stem from the drug itself as it does how that noun or verb reacts to our brain chemistry.

Some are addicted to sex, the release of those chemicals in the brain during climax is something they can't live without

Some people are addicted to eating paper bits they rip off,

Some are addicted to eating candy

Some can't eat without a beer

It's really more to do with our chemistry than anything else, I mean, if you have a bad childhood, you could be addicted to hanging out with a friend at their house, because it's more " homely ".

Doesn't mean you're bad, just means you are using something as a means to ignore the bigger issue.

You don't have an addiction if you just like something alot but if you can't have it, you don't react badly from not having it. Almost on the same levels as a tempertantrum.

Alcohol, we are taught, is "cunning, baffling, powerful". And deadly if you're an alcoholic.

Cannibis, on the other hand, is crafty, befuddling and enamoring. Worthy of respect, just like a worthy girlfriend, but not worthy of going to jail or breaking a bone for. How many of us have gone to jail, or broken a bone, due to the spirits? Was it worth it? I have never, as far as I recall, ever cut myself or even stubbed my toe, due to cannibis. I even did NOT get laid on several occasions, because it made me too shy or cautious to know a good thing when I saw her.

Booze on the other hand led me to stick my d*** in a number of places it had no regular business going...that is, the places I actually remember putting it!

Cannibis is possibly a little addictive, but not dangerous, as long as it isn't grown in heavy-metal-tainted soil.

Personally, whenever I haven't needed it (for years or even decades of my life) I simply put it aside without a second thought.

But not so them spirits. Noooo siree. They are hard to put down, if you're addicted. As hard or harder than tobacco, and that's as hard or harder than heroin to put down.

So in a word, the answer to the OP's rhetorical question is a resounding "NO!". Cannibis is a friend -- a neighbor. Treat her well and she treats you the same.

To an addict...a person whose life is controlled by drugs...all are equally addicting.

Not true. There's a difference between addiction and habit. Unless you're talking about cigarettes and then it's both. That's even harder to kick than booze.

Did you just have a mini debate with yourself here or did you have something to say?
We're talking about the differences between the addictive natures of marijuana and alcohol, are we not?
I didn't say anything about a habit. I'm talking about addiction.
Again, what I am saying is that TO AN ADDICT - both can be equally addicting. If you're an addict and your choice of drug is marijuana- than marijuana FOR YOU is more addicting than alcohol.
Some chemicals may be harder for NON-addicts to let go of....but for addicts, it's pretty straight forward. Whatever it is, they just want more and they will not stop until they get it or someone else stops them, and that someones else is usually the police and the courts.

I am sure this has been covered long before the thread got bumped but is worth reiteration.

Alcohol addiction leads to physical dependency.

Cannabis does not.

It is a night and day difference.

There should be a crystal separation between habit forming, and physically addictive when discussing addictions in general.
