A bomb has detonated near an Israeli Army base in the central Gaza Strip. The bomb, blamed on Palestinian militants, has caused several Israeli casualties. Palestinian security forces have indicate that the group Hamas was behind the attack. This is the first major attack following the death of Yasser Arafat.

GAZA (Reuters) - Palestinian militants detonated a bomb Tuesday near an Israeli army base in the central Gaza Strip, causing several Israeli casualties, Palestinian and Israeli security sources said.

At least two soldiers were evacuated for medical treatment at an Israeli hospital, they said. Palestinian security sources said the militant Islamic group Hamas was behind the attack.

No further details were immediately available about the incident which took place along a road leading to the Netzarim Jewish settlement.

Residents in the area reported hearing a loud explosion before dawn. They said the blast was followed by an exchange of fire between Israeli forces and Palestinian militants.

This while not welcome was not entirely unexpected. There is serious doubt that Abbas can rein in radical groups like Hamas and no doubt they will be a precondition to any peace accords with Israel. This gives more importance to Syrias interest in resuming talks. It is well known that a lot of these groups get shelter and money from Syria. Perhaps a peace treaty will help to cripple the terrorist groups there.

Hamas, an Israeli created terrorist organization to counter Arafats Fatah movement.

I notice how it would be beneficial for Israel to market this sort of scene to an increasingly doubtful American public.

Just poor schmucks riding the bus anyways. More fodder for the Zionist movement.

Notice how the words used in this "news" story impacts the meaning it conveys. What if it was written with less of a pro-Israeli and anti-Palestinian bias like this, which I propose is no less valid than the original wording. This change in wording makes it apparent that the news source is biased in favor of Israel and is pushing an agenda:

GAZA (Reuters) - Palestinian soldiers detonated a bomb Tuesday near an Israeli insurgent base in the central Gaza Strip, causing several Israeli insurgent casualties, Palestinian and Israeli security sources said.

At least two Israeli insurgents were evacuated for medical treatment at an Israeli hospital, they said. Palestinian security sources said the Palestinian military organization Hamas carried out the military operation.

No further details were immediately available about the incident which took place along a road leading to the Netzarim Jewish settlement.

Residents in the area reported hearing a loud explosion before dawn. They said the blast was followed by an exchange of fire between Israeli insurgents and Palestinian soldiers.

dubiosone,

You bring up an excellent point. AIPAC meets on a regular basis with all forms of media to acomplish just that. Frontline (god bless PBS) did a episode on just how the Isreali Lobby influences the information we recieve. Kudos for pointing that out. It does make a big difference in how it reported.

No, Justanotherperson, I'm not trying a reversal. Just an illustration of how the LABELS and ADJECTIVES used by newswriters effect the meaning conveyed and betray their personal and organizational biases. It's my impression that far too many people, especially average Joe and Jane American, read this crap and, failing to exercise their critical faculties, swallow the biased charcterizations whole as though they are fact and as though such "news" stories are the product of an honest witness which, clearly, they are not.

Its nonsence like this that makes me wonder what planet some people are on.

Firstly Hamas is funded by iran, who are using it to get a power base outside of their own country.

Secondly what sort of society would create a force that kills their own people so horifficaly and inhumanly just to gain sympathy overseas? Its akin to saying that Americans flew the planes on 9/11 to gain sympathy from the rest of the world. Hamas also fund many projects to help the palastinains as well. Are you having us believe this is also part of an Israeli plot.

Sometimes conspiracy theories have to be tempered with a firm grasp on reality and a knowledge of humanity.
