So then what's the point of your rant? You make exactly what the going rate is for a trade and are doing just fine. There's no baby boomer in your way and your hardly starving. I'm broke and I owe revenue Canada. See me complaining?? I'm also in trades so I know the score.

This thread and your rant is complete crap.

I think you mean any "more" coherent thoughts. Yes I do. Say sorry to your parents for making this thread.

Lol.

Well that's ok, when the millennialist are 50 and can finally do something they'll be so apathetic and beaten that they won't anyway.

And attitude has nothing to do with skill level.

Time for a new newspeak term --- counterant.
I believe you might just have offered a common insight
into a future we all disbelieved we were working for.

After this I'm going downstairs; in my apartment base-
ment and cut some discarded plywood to upgrade the
little lady's tool chest. And no Barry, I DID DESIGN THAT TOO.
I need American manufacturing in order to live as badly
as any other corpse. Enjoy your struggle against evil.

I am at the tail end of the baby boomers being 55 now. I have worked my entire life in every kind of job you can think of making barely enough to live the whole time. I finally put myself through engineering school and graduated at 48 yo. I'll be paying for that until 2032! I started my career at 49 and have just barely started a retirement account. And I'm supposed to step out of the way so you can just step into my position? I think not! How about you put yourself through school and do well and there will be an opening for you if you spend every waking hour devoting yourself to your studies like I did.

I hope the ava was nothing more than some dug in grinder
swarf and not new scars, engineer. Got my cert to Tool and
Die a little more slowly at 32... never looked back.
Thirty years later I can still count to ten too

Back to the thread: There are people out in the force that
are being displaced by technology and automation. My
last two jobs after being laid off in 2007 (from a job in the
teens for tenure) just made me flop into CNC programming.
It also didn't stop me from building my own bench mill from
scrap except for the Ralmike's table-- never give up. Nothing
in the world scarier than a tool maker with a 30 year old
AutoCAD seat... and the main motor's a 1HPDC Pac Sci now.

What do you mean, get out of the way, ?? I intend to disappear.
And no Barry, I DID DESIGN THAT too. Dilettantes... F' 'em.

Your Generation can't even make decent Music. Or anything else, 90% of the time checking your dummie Phone, Good Luck and thanks for the Insult. PS. I just got back from Surfing for 3 hours at 58, I bet you'd have a hard time just paddling out.

Music? Remember having to listen to Lawrence Welk on Saturday nights? How about Guy Lombardo and he Royal Canadians on New Years Eve? PEACE.

Actually people should retire by 60 at the latest to allow the generations below to move on up the ladder . Its most likely the Governments across the globe that are enforcing a work till you die programming stuffing everything up .
Pensions should be paid at 60 to alll citizens to allow retirement .

Thanks for your concern, though I had a hard time figuring out what an 'ava' was at first... No, that's not my hand, just a pic that I saw and thought it looked cool at the moment. It has nothing to do with me or my leanings or anything like that.

I am impressed with that mill. I was a woodworker for most of my life but just couldn't run the business end so I went to school and got a degree so I could get a steady paycheck... so anyway, I can appreciate machinery. And one of my best friends growing up worked in his dad's tool and die shop and I always thought that was the coolest job ever. We used to go in there and make bowls for smoking, you know, like, tobacco and stuff when we were like 15 years old. Lol...

Anyway, I am really impressed with that mill, did I already say that???

Sure, get out of the way and die so they can leave their kids an inheritance. Now that would be rather nice, wouldn't it? Nah, I say let the kids work for it and save so one day they too can leave all that they've worked for to their favorite charity. Personally, if a kid of mine had that attitude I'd leave everything to a homeless shelter or battered women's shelter, oh heck why not the Humane Society? Now I know why some people have pets rather than kids.

With that attitude, then I guess you won't. I believe that's called self-fulfilling prophecy and if you believe you won't then in all likelihood you won't. Me, I never sold myself short and figured out what I wanted and the steps to get what I wanted. However, I do understand that times are tough but I do see very successful young adults who gear their training, education and learning to a more specialized career field.

I'm sure there are websites that show what the fastest growing careers are and what pays well to sustain oneself and a family, if so desired. At least the younger generation has instant information at their fingertips to research and explore careers. Unlike the "baby boomers" who had the school counselor and the library with the Dewey decimal system for research. Use the technology to your advantage.

However, I'm going as fast as I can.
Can't wait to retire and have the young'uns step up and throw their money into the SS pool and retirement, etc....The Keys here I come.
