Patricia Cornwell's book, Portrait of a Killer: Jack the Ripper - Case Closed, proved that Walter Sickert was Jack the Ripper (in the opinion of Patricia and her team) She did some great detective work, and her evidence is VERY strong. For anyone interested in this case, it's worth a read. My only problem with the book is; Patricia Cornwell enjoys describing gore and murder way too much.

Well, the cuts were not surgical or anything. With Mary Kelly he made a mess, anyone could have done that. I guess with some knowledge of anatomy from an anatomy book someone with the will and strenght could have done it.

What I'm pretty sure is he lived in the area and people knew him. They were looking for strangers to blame when in fact he was probably in front of their eyes all the time.

WOW! I did some searching and I was 8 when Terror on the London Bridge came on TV. I can't believe I've been right. after so many years of research! LOL Wow! It's sad though if the mystery has really been solved. It takes the fun of who done it away and the fun of the research.

I can understand the guy writing the book and getting answers while writing, and then tell who the murderer was before right before his book came out. It might not of been the author that released it like that. May well have been his editor or publisher who decided that. Proper marketing=$$$ LOL

I took in the fact that a barber, know's his way with blades. And his family had been so poor that they must have butchered what livestock they could afford, since they were too poor to have someone else do it for them. I figured they butchered a lot of pigs and cows. He would have known or by passing, that a pig was used for human anatomy classes when corpses were not available. That was one way he would have known female anatomy. Or he could have gone to a medical theater to watch autopsies. Around that time some theaters allowed the public to view them. And he was a very sexual person, and a big pervert.

These aren't the only reasons I came to his conclusion. And I used a lot of areas of study to come up with him.

Hmmm this has sparked a memory of a little known historical tidbit. The Barber Surgeon. Very prominent guild in Poland.

It use to be one and the same profession in the middle ages and separated out, however in poorer areas it remained until the end of the 19th century.......The guild of Barber surgeons with Jews remained in charge of Polish surgery until the turn of the 19th century so it would not be unknown that it remained as a practice til later. I can't see when they separated out, I believe it was centuries later there than in England.

Whitechappel was as poor as you could be in London. Could AK have been trained as a barber surgeon in Poland?

Food for thought.
I havent seen anything on this in Riperology, if someone has can you linky please?

In some of the earlier murders organs were removed with 1 cut, organs that are hard to find and identify - that's not something you can do if you don't know what you're doing.

It's also interesting to hear people's impressions of what life back then must have been like.

On the one hand you have some people believing that "Kosminskys family must have been so poor they would have slaughtered their own livestock" while others believe he may have read books on anatomy.

1) People didn't keep pigs and cows in the very densely populated slums, and if they were poor they wouldn't have had livestock anyway. For many people it was a struggle to get something for themselves to eat, never mind feeding animals as well.

One of the ripper victims had hawked her husbands boots (the only pair he owned) to get some money to buy food (and alcohol) because it's the only thing of value they had - that's how poor they were.

They certainly wouldn't have been able to afford to buy a specialised book on anatomy, and if one had found it's way to them they'd probably sell it as fast as they could for the money.

Anyway the Ripper facts are full of very interesting coincidences (and I'm sure they are coincidences) like:

Victim 1 - Nichols lived at a lodging house at 56 Flower & Dean St, before that she'd lived at a lodging house at Thrawl St;

Victim 2 - Chapman lived at Millers court, which is actually 35 Dorset St;

Victim 3 - Stride lived at 32 Flower & Dean St, and had previously lived at 38 Dorset St;

Victim 4 - Catherine Eddowes lived at 55 Flower & Dean St. She also used apparently to doss down for the night in "the shed", a disused storage room at 26 Dorset St - it was the room behind victim 5's room.

Victim 5 - Mary Jane Kelly - lived at 13 Millers Court, which is actually 26 Dorset St, and she had previously lodged at 16/17 Thrawl St.

Perhaps even more strange is that when Eddowes pawned her partners boots (who was called John Kelly), she gave a false name on the ticket, namely Jane Kelly (i.e. very similar name to victim 5) and gave the address as 6 Dorset St.

Even more bizarre is that when Eddowes was arrested by the Police that evening she gave her name as Mary Ann Kelly.

etc...

That book...and her conclusion...are utter garbage, plain and simple. ANYONE could have licked those stamps.

The stamps are one spec out of a heap of evidence. That is actually one thing I remember the least from the book. Did you read it?

Yes, I did. And there was nothing even vaguely resembling "evidence" contained therein. Plenty of "speculation." Not much evidence. Wow, a painter created paintings that were about JTR. Clearly he was the killer. Which of course also makes Michelangelo God and Norman Rockwell a teenage boy. SMH...

He was in England during the murders and stayed at Inn's where the killings took place, same cartoon doodles drawn in Sickerts Hotel check in's and personal notes match up with doodles drawn in the Ripper letters. Some of the doodles were adapted from a comic Sickerts father drew when Sickert was a child. The writing samples in the book look the same to me; with the wierd curly ends of all the letters. Some of the Ripper letters were signed "Nemo" which was a stage name Sickert used for himself years earlier when he tried to be an actor and failed.

Sickert went through a series of horribly painful penis operations as a child, where he was given no pain medication and remembers screaming bloody murder while being held down by female nurses as he was operated on, before passing out from pain. He then developed a known hatred of women, and had a deformed penis that he was very ashamed of.....and yes there is much more evidence in the book, too much to write it out. Anyone interested in the case should give it a read.

True, the DNA evidence wasn't exclusive. It was Mitochondrial DNA, so it is a match for anywhere from 1 to 10% of the population, which isn't enough to convict someone on, but does mean that not just anyone could have licked the stamps. 1-10% of the population is not a lot of people, considering how many of that amount were even in England at the time, and then how many of those were even a profile for the possible killer. Sickert was a match for Mitochondrial DNA, so it's not exact, but narrows it down.

I'm not trying to dump on all of that, it's just that all of the Ripper letters are about 99.99% likely to be complete fakes. So they need to be thrown out as any kind of evidence at all.

It will be no surprise that it seems that, the people who did the DNA profiling were entertaining Mr Cock Up and it could one of millions of people's DNA and not Kosminki's.
