Then for Russia to even send a tank or BTR with handful soldiers would be an invasion of sorts if going totally by the books.

NATO is not obliged to start a war with Russia over Ukraine, but it can do it nonetheless.
And the moment some NATO troops will take casualties in Ukraine, either from "rebels" or "lost russian commandos"
the chances it will respond agressively are very high even before Ukraine formally joins NATO.
Also there is a great deal of mutual personal animosity between NATO general secretary Rasmussen and Putin.

GOOD WILL?? REALLY? LMAO.

Try flat ass broke. Try a crumbling fraud of a nation and empire that ruled by intimidation and occupation.

Those countries had the right to join NATO and NATO had the right to accept/reject them. Those countries wanted nothing to do with Russia...ever again.

Good will my ass....

As I told before those ANGLOS are sooo much arrogant.
Yes, GOOD WILL mostly. In part they were also scared over Reagan "Space wars" plans, which later proved to be exaggerated and never received funding. I can assure You, that if in 1984 any other Gen. Secretary of CPSU were chosen, not Gorbachev, but almost any other. There wouldn't be USSR collapse. I don't know how the history would
play itself, but in 1983 USSR was in less crisis than USA last 10 years lol.

Just be calm that I'm not going to be Tsar of Russia , I prefer King of Israel, lol

Even with Gorby, if USSR had taken up the Chinese model of market reforms by 2000 it would have been ready for some serious launch into economic growth.

However, Russians were soooooooo much in love with "America" that they wanted to become one in 2 years. Yes, Shock Therapy mode of becoming America in 2 years. The buffoon Yeltsin's model of Survival of the fittest. Guess in that case only MAFIA survived of which that drunk was a part of.

After thought, Ivan Draga was Ukranian , btw. Or serbian, I knew one Ukr Draga.
But seems it is even more Southern slavic dialect like Serbian.

Collapse or war. There was no other alternative. Gorbie chose wisely, IMO.

Arrogance...Hmmm. You might look up the definition of the word sometime.

I feel we are derailing this thread into another huge topic, let me just repeat what I initially said.
Demolishing of Berlin Wall was not a surrender, but merely a gesture of GOOD WILL.
West German Stazi (analogous to KGB) was functioning as KGB, enhanced with German usual perfection.
E. Honnekcer didn't betrayed USSR, it was Gorbie that betrayed him. If you would ask Berliners just month prior to destruction of Wall if they think it is possible in near future, I suggest those Germans to answer here if they reading this post. But my personal feelings are that the number believing in near collapse would be in low decile %.
I spoke with some West Berliners not many years after 1988 and all those who I speak said, it was a pleasant surprise.
Pleasant - yes, but surprise.
When the Wall collapsed, Soviet authorities embraced this. Such as ,I even remember that part of the Wall was displayed in the central place of Riga (capital of Latvia), mind you Latvia was still part of USSR.

Agreed re the thread. Perhaps I can buy into a 'good will'/peace gesture by Gorbie. However, there is a an "asterisk" after that "good will" gesture. That is no viable alternative.

If the percentile is low believing the Soviet Union was at or near collapse, then it is proof positive that revisionist history/intense PR efforts are alive and well.

I suppose all the Warsaw Pact nations that departed the worker's paradise was also a good will gesture?...

Sorry, it was a complete capitulation of the Soviet 'responsibility' to bring Socialism to the world. Utter defeat. No point mincing words on this.
