Ok, try this:

I do not believe there are any 'pre-made' avatars so you have to find your own. Once you have it saved somewhere on your PC, use the same dropdown menu (down arrow in the circle), and click on upload instead of account. Then click the 'Upload' button in the upper left.

Anything you upload can also be used in thread conversations, so the upload process is handy for more than just avatars.
