Just think.. the original rockers have outlived them all..
Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, and others are still alive and kicking.

That's why I feel it's odd and tragic, the ramones where not known to be into drugs or alcohol either.

anytime a band reaches the end of the road is a bummer. to me, more music is better than less but punk in general is one genere i never got. i just dont get it.
my wife loves punk music and can jam all day to it. when she puts it on i tend to go in the other room.

never really got the fascination

Dee Dee died of a heroin overdose after struggling with it for yeaars, not a hundred percent on other members but I'm sure they possibly dabbled.

Listen to their song Chinese Rock.

As for punk I listen to mostly crust/anarcho/d-beat. To me it's more true to punk because they're not making good money off of it. The Ramones were good but they were highly commercialized for a reason. The image fit for the time, music was evolving, and teen rebellion was bored with hippies and too tired to dust off rockabilly.

It's about struggles with drugs. Not promoting it but how it impacts the user and those around them.

Yea i looked up Chinese rock and never heard that used as a slang for heroin? I never used hard drugs, that's probably why.
